To think I might need professional help with my 8yo

8yo son has always been hard work, I am highly suspicious he has add, has an incredibly short attention span, very lazy and incredibly rude to me. These are all things I have been trying to help him with but one thing we are struggling with is his toilet habits. He will not wipe his bum, he will sneak to the toilet and I will only find out he has not wiped when i smell him or I do his washing and his pants are full of it. My partner and I have gone to checking his bottom everytime he leaves the toilet. When sent back he will wipe it so it’s not a phobia. I’m really concerned for him. He stinks regularly, is likely spreading bugs etc. Last night he had a bath and when I got him out he had chunks of poo in there. AIBU to think at 8 I now need professional help with this? We’ve tried talking to him, we’ve tried punishments (no screen time etc) and we’ve tried hyper monitoring him. I’m at a loss.

That's tricky op. When he does wipe is the problem resolved? Or does he still smell? I assume he won't /can't explain why? I'd probably try to get help too as there's obviously an underlying cause.

Hey OP....Is your son constipated? The thing you describe may be leakage...my son had a problem at that age where he was going to the loo but it was impacted and he had a lot of leakage in his underwear...Your son must be upset too as you are and you are right you do need some help.I would suggest first call would be your GP or school nurse. The sooner you can get him sorted the better,as it might be a pretty easy thing to fix and would boost his confidence no end.Poor kid.I hope all works out well for you all .
