To be very cross with the Russian consulate

So, heading to St Petersburg on a break away. Have applied most carefully and correctly online for the evisa. All is in order, details very carefully copied from passport etc. When I press submit a line of gobbledegook comes up and I cannot submit the application.

The consulate here in Dublin is closed till Jan 8. I fly to Vilnius Jan 6. My accomodation in St Petersburg is prepaid and unrefundable.

I don't suppose there is anyone out there who might have some ideas??
Thank you.

I can’t help but I’m not sure anyone else can , seeing as the consulate is closed.
Was this a last minute break?
This should have been sorted earlier .
I hope you manage to get away. Good luck.

Is your device enabled for Russian (Cyrillic) script? In Windows at least you have to enable it. Then you might at least be able to get an idea of what the issue is.

RosieMapleLeaf · 31/12/2019 21:00

If you are getting a message back I would just copy-paste into Google Translate to at least get an idea what the issue is.

Use an agency?

KittenVsXmastree · 31/12/2019 21:05

Is there a Visa handling company in Dublin open on the 2nd?

Is the message that comes up an internet generated one? Or is it in Russian, in which case can you screenshot and translate?

Have you tried more than once?? Have you tried from a different computer (and make it a computer if you have been on a tablet/mobile so far). Is it just you travelling? Has anyone else in the party tried to apply?? What result did they get?
Sorry, no advice on Russian Visas, but these are things that I know others needing e-visas for various places have tried. Hope you can sort it, and have a wonderful visit.

Lunar567 · 31/12/2019 21:10

Have you applied for the free electronic visa for St.Petersburg?
Did you check if your nationality included in the list?
Great Britain is not on the list, not sure about Ireland.

ragged · 31/12/2019 21:11

I'd be cross about that, too. But not sure how being cross can help!
Didn't book thru a travel agency?

notanotherjigsawpiece · 31/12/2019 21:14

The Visa to Russia Agency is open on Wednesday, though I can’t see they’d be able to get you a visa if the Consulate is closed until next week. I personally wouldn’t have waited until the night before a week long closure to apply though.

Bunnyfuller · 31/12/2019 21:16

Copy/paste the text, I can translate

Yetanotherwinter · 31/12/2019 21:17

Hope you get sorted. You have the most amazing treat in store. We spent two days there last summer on an escorted tour. It was absolutely fantastic.

AnnieJ1985 · 31/12/2019 21:20

Have you had to upload a passport pic? We had an issue with online visa for China before and it was because the pic dimensions were so finicky. Problem was it wouldn't tell us what was wrong, so it was just trial and error until we sussed it.

notapizzaeater · 31/12/2019 21:21

Can your travel agent not help?

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 31/12/2019 21:25

Have you tried a different web browser?

Mitsouko67 · 31/12/2019 23:44

Travelling solo and have tried carefully 6 times. Also tried on my phone but same issue.

Yes should have done earlier though you can only apply 20 days or may 30 in advance.

I'm not really cross. I think it's a computer generated message in English but not making sense iykwim.

Suggestions about different computer or different browser are brilliant!

The entire process is in English and supposed to be easy and quick. Could very well be wrong browser. I never understood about browsers but will get to grips with them now.

I think maybe different browser.

Thank you all very much for helpful comments, will try that and let you know.

I am my own travel agent alas!

I'm going on my trip anyway and will divert to other destinations if I really need to.
But not giving up yet.
