To be raging at myself?

So I got a bigger car that my name suggests I need. Had it an hour and rattled it off a lamp post. Luckily I was alone in the car but I'm so disappointed in myself. It wasn't brand new but it's new to me and I've damaged lights so I can't even drive anywhere while I wait to get it fixed! Shouldn't have got something so big. What an idiot.

Well you are not being unreasonable but guess you've realised that.

GinDaddy · 30/12/2019 15:01

What model is the bigger car? Did you crash into the lamp post, or was it during parking?

Hope you're ok?

goingtoneedabiggercar · 30/12/2019 15:05

@Pipandmum yes I have, not unreasonable just a twat.

@GinDaddy I was reversing out of a small car park that I didn't have space to turn in, the new car is a Kia Sportage with a bloody reversing camera! I was fixated on a pedestrian near me that I missed a ruddy great lamp post.

These things happen. My husband knocked a wing mirror off first week we had our car. It was also smacked into by another car a few weeks later

Jayaywhynot · 30/12/2019 15:24

Iv kerbed 3 of the alloys on our new ST3 Wink

gamerwidow · 30/12/2019 15:25

These things happen, it’s what insurance is for. No one was hurt and you’ll know better next time.

SassenachWitch · 30/12/2019 15:28

I took a chunk out of the alloy and tyre on my new ST3, stupid low profile tyres Hmm

Reverse cameras and sensors make me an awful driver, I started ignoring the over sensitive beepers and reversed into a wall in my last car.

goingtoneedabiggercar · 30/12/2019 15:35

Thanks everyone, I've obviously notified my insurance but I'm waiting to see what the quote is to fix it to decide if I'll actually make a claim for the damage. I've only been driving a year and a half so long term it might be cheaper to just pay for it.

If it makes you feel better I managed to crash 4 week old SUV into our rusty old VW golf on our drive way! Both cars dented and scratched and no good reason other than a total brain fart moment.

Jingers5 · 30/12/2019 15:57

At least you didn't hit the pedestrian. Think of how bad that could have been. I know it's annoying but you can still drive in daylight hours 😁

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 30/12/2019 15:59

It was an accident. These things happen. Don't beat yourself up.

Mistlewoe · 30/12/2019 15:59

I once reversed into a lamppost, also have camera. I think it's hard to judge with a new car. But you learn

mbosnz · 30/12/2019 15:59

I feel your pain. I dinged two of our cars on a supermarket bollard. The really upsetting thing was that it was the same damned bollard. . .

Mistlewoe · 30/12/2019 16:00

I've also driven into the side of my house when parking on my drive, sensors going bonkers. 😱

MrOnionsBumperRoller · 30/12/2019 16:04

Oh well, consider it christened OP.

Brooksay · 30/12/2019 16:18

You've notified your insurance Co, you say? Wether you decide to claim from them or pay it yourself your premium will now go up come renewal... Should have got quotes to repair before contacting them. Live and learn, eh?

Dipsydoodle · 30/12/2019 16:19

I reversed our brand new car into our wheelie bins and broke the taillight Grin

CFlemingSmith · 30/12/2019 16:20

Come and see how ruined my alloys are on my Range Rover to make you feel better. I’ve had it years and still can’t park it Confused

On a serious note, definitely get quotes to fix before notifying your insurance, especially if you haven’t been driving that long

goingtoneedabiggercar · 31/12/2019 01:04

I'm getting tape for the lights so I should be able to go out again soon. Just need to get my big girl pants on and not be scared to drive it!

ProfessionalBoss · 31/12/2019 01:14

You've said that the car isn't brand new, so you could be a lot cheaper if you found one in a scrapyard and bought the lights from it. Typically they're not a nightmare to fit, and you'd probably find an independent garage who would do it for a small charge.
