To call in sick?

A few years ago, I had a terrible rash on my face. Like deep, almost wart like nodules, all over my face. It lasted for months and was was so bad it almost permanently disfigured my skin. The pain was so bad I couldn’t sleep.

Yesterday, I noticed it was back. Exactly the same, just smaller. I absolutely cannot go through that again.

It sounds ridiculous, but I’ve spent all night panicking. It’s making me depressed even thinking of it coming back.

I’ve booked a doctors appointment for 2pm. The nature of my job is that I either go in, or not at all as partial cover isn’t a thing.

AIBU to call in sick? I’m going on holiday tomorrow, so today is the only day. The city I’m going too is freezing and the cold weather makes the rash worse :(

I’ve worked here for three years, never called in sick, apart from two occasions that were related (so more like one) as I broke my foot

Call in sick. Enjoy your holiday.

Why are you even asking? Why wouldn't you?

Sounds like you have to go to the doctors at 2pm.
If your work means you either go in or not at all then you need to stay home. Go and see the GP, fingers crossed it’s something minor.

You're not calling in sick so you can spend the day scratching your butt while watching Netflix.

This is health-related - don't worry about it.

You have a rash that you don't know is contagious, as well as being painful etc. So calling in sick is appropriate.

FairyDogMother11 · 30/12/2019 08:48

I wouldn't say you're being unreasonable but where I work sickness overrides holiday so if you call in sick before your holiday, you'd have to claim sick pay instead of holiday pay (you have to return for a shift before you can then get holiday pay) so I'd check that doesn't apply where you are first!
