I only cook turkey I'd I'm making a soup and I use a leg or breast. Not for Xmas day, that's always lamb, easy peasy and perfect every time.

BentNeckLady · 29/12/2019 21:36

Oh me too. Mine was nice as far as turkey goes, moist, flavourful etc etc but I just can’t get excited about it.

Beef wellington next year.

Singlebutmarried · 29/12/2019 21:36

If I do turkey I do a turkey breast. Otherwise I find it too dry and it’s not my favourite meat.

Ponoka7 · 29/12/2019 21:37

Eat whatever you prefer. I no longer do a Christmas dinner, I get invited somewhere, so don't get to choose.

I like turkey, but we used to get free range farm one's, so I don't know if they taste any better. That was some years ago. The quality of meat in general has dropped since then.

Anyone else though this was a summer holiday thread?

I think the upper case "T" threw me!!

AnnieTotach · 29/12/2019 21:39

YABU to capitalize turkey when talking about the food/bird!
I clicked on this thinking it would be a discussion of developments in the country of Turkey!

Orchidflower1 · 29/12/2019 21:40

@speakout I did!! T got me too!!

JaceLancs · 29/12/2019 21:42

I bought a farm reared free range chicken (4kg)
It’s been fab the perfect MN chicken!
We had our Xmas dinner on Xmas eve with it
Sandwiches Xmas day eve
More sandwiches Boxing Day
Part of Friday eve buffet
DP and I had more with chips and salad last night
I nibbled bits for lunch today
Gave in and left the rest for Dcats tonight

MrsLJ2014 · 29/12/2019 21:45

Also thought it was about the country!!

Have had chicken for last few Christmas dinners. I much prefer it and love the leftovers for chicken and stuffing sandwiches.
Had turkey at my work's night out, which was fine, but I just had the few slices on my plate and no leftovers to work through!

Blacksackunderthetreesfreeze · 29/12/2019 21:45

Me too, me too, I thought it was a summer holiday thread!

I had a turkey crown this year and it was v nice. Also extremely easy. If I cook Christmas dinner again at my house I’ll definitely choose a crown again, although I’ve nothing against other types of meat at Christmas.

IckleBear · 29/12/2019 21:49

We have duck.. It was lovely.

VisionQuest · 29/12/2019 21:49

Nobody can stand the taste of turkey in our house. So we always do a roast chicken.

PrettyShiningPeople · 29/12/2019 21:49

What was not nice about it? Try some butter under the skin and some bacon rashers on top.
Trouble is trying to get hold of a chicken at Christmas unless you pre-order.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/12/2019 22:06

It's easy to get a chicken at Xmas Confused

Notnew · 29/12/2019 22:09

There was butter under the skin and bacon on top it was just turkey is all its not the nicest of meats is all

ChilliandLemon · 29/12/2019 22:10

We had a goose, it was lovely!

Thelnebriati · 29/12/2019 22:11

We had a joint of 30 days matured beef. I thought there might be enough for sandwiches on Boxing day but we ate the lot.

cakeallday · 29/12/2019 22:15

YANBU - we all agreed this year we don't like turkey much. We had a side of salmon (as one of my children no longer eats meat) and a chicken.

Even then I only had a few bites of chicken as the salmon was sooooo nice. Hang tradition, I say!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/12/2019 22:16

Just go vegetarian or vegan , no disappointment there !

I had to click on the photos of the manky off turkeys (and nearly hurled at the one with the gopping black hole in it Envy

Beautiful3 · 29/12/2019 22:19

I hate turkey. This year we had goose. It was delicious.

scaryteacher · 29/12/2019 22:29

I like turkey and mine was great. We had it Christmas Day, boxing day, had sandwiches, picky suppers,, I've made stock from the carcass and will get 2 batches of soup, 2 batches of curry and a mexican turkey bake from the meat dh carved off it before I made stock.

It was a smaller turkey this year at 17lbs. The last few Christmasses we've lived abroad, so the choice has been a capon at almost the same cost as a turkey; a small turkey of about 5kgs, or a 10-11 kg turkey. I've had the latter, brined it, managed to stuff it in the oven and had loads of meat to do things with during the year. Not so much this year.

bluejelly · 29/12/2019 22:36

I thought this was going to be about Turkish foreign policy Grin

mrsbyers · 29/12/2019 22:46

We love turkey , picked up half a dozen reduced to clear for the chest freezer on Boxing Day - great for sandwiches and a lot cheaper than buying a couple of slices from the deli

pooboobsleeprepeat · 29/12/2019 22:54

I prefer not to have death on my plate altogether 🤔
