Perfume mix up

anotherday4 · 28/12/2019 21:07

Went into Superdrug the other day as my other half was buying me some perfume... he wanted me to choose one. All good

So I speak to the lady who was lovely and helpful she showed me a few and I picked the one I liked. Bought it she gift wrapped it and it was put under the tree anyway I open it on Christmas morning and spray it only to realise it's not the one I chose it's the same brand and shape bottle but not the same colour or name :( I googled them and the boxes are pretty much identical apart from the extra name added.. it wasn't cheap and I'm upset but also kicking myself because I sprayed it and I'm thinking will the swap becauseI've opened it ? And my partner has thrown away the receipt 😫😫😫😫 any advice would be appreciated here

Why did you open it if you knew it was the wrong one?
I don’t think you’ll be able to change it but won’t hurt to go back in and ask?

Elieza · 28/12/2019 21:10

I don’t think there’s much you can do unless you find the receipt and it’s faulty. Sell on eBay? You’ll get about half the money and you can add your own to it and get the perfume you really like? Now you know it’s name buy on eBay? Someone’s bound to be selling one!

steff13 · 28/12/2019 21:11

It wouldn't hurt to ask. Did he use a debit or credit card? They may be able to look up the receipt with the card. I've had a store do that for me before.

anotherday4 · 28/12/2019 21:11

Because I didn't realise what the box looked like as I'd only seen the bottle ?! If that makes sense I didn't think to read the box as it said Hugo boss which I'd chose al looked right I'll find the picture now

Yes I’ve sold slightly used perfume on eBay

Todaythiscouldbe · 28/12/2019 21:11

I did this last year with aftershave for DH. The boxes were almost identical except for one word (in tiny silver letters on a white box)
I took it back, the manager agreed with me that the packaging was the same and swapped it over (he had opened and sprayed it)

windycuntryside · 28/12/2019 21:13

I highly doubt you can return it. Learn to like it is my (probably unwanted advice)

FelicityBeedle · 28/12/2019 21:13

Have you had another thread in this?

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 28/12/2019 21:14

You won't be able to change it now you've opened it and used it - probably not much you can do, tbh. Would people really buy an open and used bottle of perfume on ebay?

anotherday4 · 28/12/2019 21:15

Nope this is my first thread on this subject

Yes I had a Jo Malone that I had a few sprays off and got bored. Sold it for about 60% of full price. I had the box but sold it as used and showed how much I’d used ( barely any) was a bargain for someone

anotherday4 · 28/12/2019 21:18

Paid by debit card x

I’d try the shop first as it’s their mistake and If no joy sell and put toward the one you want

PurBal · 28/12/2019 21:19

Well... I'd probably just use it and get the other one next time...?

Todaythiscouldbe · 28/12/2019 21:20

@anotherday4 it's worth a try, I didn't expect to be refunded, just wanted to make the shop aware of the similarity in the packaging. Good luck

anotherday4 · 28/12/2019 21:22

Wish I could post it and you would see how very close they are ! I can only try hey

OP posts:
Crunchymum · 28/12/2019 21:23

Given you a) dont have the receipt b) have opened it and c) it isn't faulty, I think you'd actually be being a bit of a CF to take it back.

MondeoFan · 28/12/2019 21:24

I would return it and make them aware of their mistake. It's defo their mistake and they should sort it

1Morewineplease · 28/12/2019 21:26

Think you just might have to suck it up.

anotherday4 · 28/12/2019 21:27

@Crunchymum why because the woman gave me the wrong perfume ?! Her mistake not mine the boxes are practically the same and I shouldn't have to check on something before opening it..

OP posts:
Caterinaballerina · 28/12/2019 21:30

They could use it as a tester in the shop so I’d definitely go and plead your case in the shop. You’re not asking for a refund but an exchange which seems a lot less CF and more honest mistake.

anotherday4 · 28/12/2019 21:31

A mistake made on both parts I suppose and I never thought of that x Thankyou

OP posts:
Crunchymum · 28/12/2019 21:34

If you had the receipt then fine, take it back. If you'd realised before you opened it, fine take it back. If there was a fault, fine take it back.

Taking back an open bottle, with no receipt... don't expect a refund. Maybe the sales person will remember you and plead your case, maybe the manager will do it as an offer of goodwill but there is no way you can expect to walk into a shop, with no proof of purchase / a used product that isn't faulty and expect an exchange Shock
