To prefer Boxing Day?!

Yesterday was manic. Kids were hyper. I was tired and stressed.

I cooked lunch (which really became dinner!) and kids were too hyper to eat and I set fire to a tea towel!

Today, although we still have guests, has been bliss in comparison. Our guests are chilled (to the extent of sleeping a lot), I've had time to play with both kids who are mixing a healthy balance of new toys v's old favourites they can play alone. Dinner is purposefully super easy followed by cheese!

Am I the only one?!

I love Boxing Day! Snacking, eating left overs, playing games, watching films - so relaxed. No mess as all cleared up last night. No expectations - just generally a ‘yes’ day. I love it. Need to work out how to have 2 Boxing Days next year!

shouldntBeButIAm · 26/12/2019 15:03

Yes 2 boxing days!

I asked my mum (a first!) today if it would be unreasonable to cook toast next Christmas Eve and have something simple on Christmas Day and I think I got a bit of a look Sadbut I'm seriously considering it!

I need to start work NOW on de-stressing next Christmas Day!

I would go out for lunch but one of my kids would hate that

I LOVE BOXING DAY! You get to play with the kids with their toys, have Prosecco whenever you need want it PLUS everyone else is hungover so no guests!!!!!!
And you get to eat delicious leftovers- I always make my DH cook extra for this very purpose!

shouldntBeButIAm · 26/12/2019 15:08

Oops not toast on Christmas Eve, roast! Should put my glasses on!

I said exactly this to DP this morning. I much prefer boxing day x

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 26/12/2019 15:09

Leftovers and pjs day. Hell yeah. I've opened the prosecco too. Awesome.

flapjackfairy · 26/12/2019 15:11

I love boxing day as well. We use up leftovers so it is every man for himself in the food department and we just loll around watching telly, eating chocolates and chilling.
All the best bits of Christmas day without any of the stress . Lovely !

HerRoyalFattyness · 26/12/2019 15:12

Their dad has buggered off to his mother's, so me and the kids are sat in our jamas watching the witches, picking at biscuits and chocolate, and the odd turkey sarnie.
We've played with the Playmobil, built the Lego and we've role played with the new doll.
We've also drawn pictures, read stories and experimented with the magnetic slime to see just how magnetic it really is.

Such a fantastic chilled out day (helped by the fact it's just me and the 3 kids! No miserable git spoiling it!)

Yes much more chill day, although very sorry for those who have to work either. My husband often does but most year is lucky enough to get both off.

BarbedBloom · 26/12/2019 15:21

It is lovely here. We are both watching films, eating cheese and relaxing, which is good as I am shattered

CripsSandwiches · 26/12/2019 15:24

Me too! I have plenty of Christmas dinner left over and am enjoying it more now I haven't just been cooking it, DCs are happy building lego they got for Christmas.

Verily1 · 26/12/2019 15:25

All I’ve had is breakfast- I’m starving. I’d love a Boxing Day of snacking on leftovers but dp is so stingy and disorganised he only shops for Xmas day so we had nothing left today and I had to go to the supermarket! (Which I object to cos people shouldn’t have to work today!)

BrusselPout · 26/12/2019 15:30

Boxing Day is by far my favourite day - much more relaxed and a lot less expectation. Christmas Day for me is a bit like NYE, people go a bit nuts with all the 'IT HAS TO BE MAGICAL' nonsense and it rarely lives up to the idea people have in their heads

AgeLikeWine · 26/12/2019 15:37

Boxing Day is the best! I’m currently stuffing my face with cheese while watching the Test Match. Come on 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🦁

CareOfPunts · 26/12/2019 15:39

I like Boxing Day and New Year’s Day (although hate NYE) so much more chilled than Christmas Day

Redcherries · 26/12/2019 15:41

Boxing Day is less festive but the best day, tidied up from yesterday and chilling with wine, there’s bubble and squeak in the oven with cheese mash and cauliflower cheese to have with cold cuts, cheese (a theme) pickles and pate. We have some posh crackers, fairy lights and the tele on. It’s so relaxing.

Selene28 · 26/12/2019 15:41

The shops are open and little one can occupy herself with new toys instead of jumping off the walls. That's why I prefer Boxing Day.

mrsbyers · 26/12/2019 15:42

Had a lie in til almost noon - my new weighted blanket worked brilliantly such a solid sleep and didn’t have any booze either !
Been out on the annual bargain turkey hunt and just filled the chest freezer for less than £50
Back now , hubby has got our teams football match on the TV
Going to mooch about to sort out our traditional cardboard box of goodies , chocs and biscuits
Picky tea later and back into PJ’s
Washer and dryer going
Both pets will be having their Christmas lunch in a bit - dreading the flatulence lol

Redcherries · 26/12/2019 15:43

@CareOfPunts me too! New Year’s Day is a big family roast, wine and games. Nice and chilled with yummy food 😁

BillywigSting · 26/12/2019 15:46

I love boxing day.

Yesterday was a whirlwind of visitors coming to us, massive piles of presents, us going to the in-laws, too many people in a too small space etc.

Today we didn't get up until after 9am (ds is typically a 6am riser), eaten sweets and nuts and biscuits all day, played with ds and built some of his models, and generally had a lovely relaxed day.

I got a shower before with some of my nice new smellies and got straight into clean pj's.

Leftovers for dinner whenever we fancy it.

I think we should have boxing day at least twice a year (maybe after Easter too)
