To ask what the shops are like today

Has anyone been out? I don't need anything, but there's a few things I'd quite like to get today rather than later in the week, if it's not too horrific. I'm hoping to get to the retail park (Next, Hobbycraft, Boots etc) and maybe Tesco, but could definitely leave that for later.

Unless you're willing to give us your exact location, its probably easier to go out and look yourself. All I can say is my local Co-op was pretty quiet at 9am but that's probably not much use to you!

Robs20 · 24/12/2019 11:32

Just been to the big sainsburys near us. We found a parking space straight away and the shop was quieter than a normal Saturday!

bridgetreilly · 24/12/2019 11:34

Great, thanks! I think I might risk it. My suspicion is that a lot of people will have been shopping yesterday or at the weekend and today might be slightly quieter.

usually not too bad especially later in the day. Most shops close early. Probably quieter today then after Xmas when the sales have started.

My sister said large tesco & retail park near her had huge queues of card to get into car park - that would probably have been around ten this morning.

My local mini tesco/waitrose/sainsbury etc will be quiet - depends whether yours serve mostly residents or office workers.

For a retail park, i think best strategy would be to look at when retail park closes, and aim to get there about an hour before - but if it's nothing urgent they;ll probably be open and empty on boxing day.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 24/12/2019 11:45

A friend updated her Facebook status an hour or so ago to say she’d been stuck in the supermarket car park for 20 minutes so far (trying to get out.)

eveshopper · 24/12/2019 11:49

I am in Dundee which is supposed to be a city and it's not even close to being busy. It's genuinely like a weekday in town! Supermarkets are probably mental but the actual city centre is dead. Never seen a Christmas Eve so stale.

Scarylady · 24/12/2019 11:51

Just been out to drop some presents off to family and the roads seem quieter than a normal Saturday and I live very close to a very large shopping centre

Frothybothie · 24/12/2019 11:52

Well the doctors surgery where I work is as quiet at the grave but....

Burlea · 24/12/2019 11:53

Went to Asda at 8.30 am very quiet. But DD went yesterday and it was bedlam in the store and the roads.

TheSquitz · 24/12/2019 11:55

Just walked past a retail park in Sutton Coldfield where there's an M&S foodhall, Next, large Tesco etc Loads of spaces in the car park.

Nononononono33 · 24/12/2019 11:56

Popped into Tesco at 10am expecting the worst but the car park had spaces and it was just like a Sunday morning in there.

MegaMoolah · 24/12/2019 11:56

Well I went yesterday which I regret as it as absolute hell on Earth, mayhem! Today actually seems a lot quieter!

supadupapupascupa · 24/12/2019 11:56

Best bet is to ask on your Facebook page. Within 15mins you will get the local lowdown complete with photos Grin

pinacoladalover · 24/12/2019 11:57

Peterborough here, went to aldi and tesco like a normal Sunday.

CoffeeCoinnesseur · 24/12/2019 11:58

I drove past my local Booths yesterday lunchtime and it looked like hell.

DH and then went at 4pm yesterday and it was lovely, got a parking space no problem, it was fully stocked, no queues at the checkouts.

Evennow · 24/12/2019 12:00

Shopped this morning in local Sainsbury, Tesco & Coop. No queues, shelves full.

Topseyt · 24/12/2019 12:01

Our local Tesco was manic yesterday. Totally rammed.

My DD is working at the Costa café there so I will have to go back today to collect her after her shift. It will be interesting to see how it compares to yesterday.

Wingedharpy · 24/12/2019 12:03

Radio 4 said yesterday was predicted to be the busiest shopping day for Christmas period so, presumably, today will be quieter.

CFlemingSmith · 24/12/2019 12:04

Just been to a main town and absolutely dead!

dementedma · 24/12/2019 12:04

Local Aldi very quiet. Have had no problems with the shops at all this year.

NurseButtercup · 24/12/2019 12:06

Hahaha I'm like you op I'm going to brave the crowds for things I don't "need" but I don't want to go shopping on Friday. Good luck Xmas Wink

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 24/12/2019 12:11

Our Sainsburys is on a retail park with a Next etc, it's currently hell.

whojamaflip · 24/12/2019 12:15

Been out to both Aldi and co-op this morning - car parks had plenty of spaces, no queues at the tills, shelves had plenty on them and both supermarkets had started reducing their fresh stuff!

Market town in the Cotswolds and really wasn't as busy as I expected (yesterday was hell though!)

femidom12 · 24/12/2019 12:19

Yep really busy here - hope that helps!
