AIBU to feel this awesome musical is ruined by snot?

I loved cats as a child in the 90s ,we did it as a show at my dance school. I saw it in the West End. I loved it. I know the songs and rhymes. So maybe I had high expectations taking my dd 11 today.

I thought most of it was really good. So did my dd with pre teen attention span. However when J Hudson did the Grisabella bit the snot or maybe the tears from her nose ( I kept telling myself ) put me off. My dd kept turning away. Did it need to be part of the emotion?

Maybe I am AIBU?

I read this review from CNBC

Jennifer Hudson tirelessly over-emotes in the role; she limps around hemorrhaging snot and looking either miserable or terrified, like she's been watching the dailies," he wrote. "She blubbers her way through 'Memory,' letting loose all her considerable lung power for the big-ass key change on the phrase 'Touch me.'"

AIBU?

Yanbu if that's how you really feel?

I haven't seen it yet, but your mini review is the best I've read so far regarding this film. I'm planning to watch it this weekend.

@oneborneverydecade

Wow that's a very glowing & gushing review hahaha.

I haven't seen the theatre version - but I'm looking forward to seeing it. I mean I can't miss seeing Dame Judy Dench, Sir Ian McKellen, Idris Elba and Jennifer Hudson in the same film!! I'm either going to think it's great or a complete car crash. My heart is hoping for greatness LoL.

That is a glowing review.

I liked it. I loved singing along ( in my head)
even Deuteronomy as a woman. Learning that ' jellicle' has a cute meaning but dd is still going on about the snot.

Was there a need?

I thought that too. It was so off putting. I know it got bad reviews but I quite liked it, well parts of it.
