Not sure what to vote but it's neither good for the washing nor the carpet.

ByAppointmentTo · 22/12/2019 11:24

Why on earth would he do that?

Jaynesworld · 22/12/2019 11:27

My friends do this! Shoes on house, no carpets, floor rarely gets cleaned. Wet clean washing straight on floor Xmas Envy (not envy)

Elieza · 22/12/2019 11:29

What the hell was he thinking. That’s what a washing basket is for.

Was he raking for a favourite item of clothing he wants right away so he could tumble it and to hell with the other stuff?

Unbelievable.
I’d kill him if it were clean towels or dish towels as your face/dishes you eat from get rubbed with those and you want anything your face touches or stuff that goes on your mouth like cutlery etc to be clean. He’s a pig.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 22/12/2019 11:31

That’s what plastic laundry baskets are for.

TriangularRatbag · 22/12/2019 11:34

I hate to disillusion you, but plastic laundry baskets are absolute reservoirs of bacteria. Grim.

DontCallMeShitley · 22/12/2019 11:50

I can see that plastic laundry baskets would be a bit germy if you put the dirty washing in, really dirty stuff, but mine are only used for clean stuff, and in any case I would prefer a plastic basket to a dirty carpet any day.

Stuff drops on the floor after being washed, like tea towels which always seem to be the only things that fall on the floor will go back in the wash until I stop dropping them on the floor. Nothing else ever seems to fall on the floor for some reason.

Timeforachangeofusername99 · 22/12/2019 11:54

I agree that's what plastic laundry baskets are for. Also, they don't have to be germy. You could have 'clean' and 'dirty' baskets or you could just wipe them out with a squirt of general disinfectant every now and then.

No to clean laundry on the floor, bleugh.

BudgieHammockBananaSmuggler · 22/12/2019 11:57

Oh! It has never occurred to me to wash my laundry baskets. How am I still alive? #slattern

5LeafClover · 22/12/2019 12:03

Crikey. I'm assuming that if you're on AIBU he must have told you that he thinks it's both a reasonable and common thing. Has he been doing it regularly for years and you've only just found out? YNBU.

endofthelinefinally · 22/12/2019 12:06

I clean my washing baskets with dettox spray. My upstairs laundry basket has a cotton lining that goes in the wash with the clothes. It isn't difficult.

Obligatorync · 22/12/2019 12:27

My child used one of my washing baskets as a den the other day and it cannot be salvaged. Since then I've pulled out the odd load onto the floor. But it's a clean kitchen floor.

I have never died of dirty laundry basket so I'll risk using them

Mollie3 · 23/12/2019 14:47

Thanks everyone for your replies yes apparently he’s always done it 😳
Particularly annoying because we have a young child and so obviously the ummm tainted clothes for want of a better word will be pawed and chewed... hopefully everything will be ok 🤔
