This was sparked by Stormzy saying he would have doubts about accepting an honour because they're given in the name of the British Empire.
I'm not a fan of Stormzy at all and disagree with him on most issues, but this one got me thinking. Almost all of our honours have the word 'Empire' in their name. The es in MBE, CBE and OBE all stand for Empire.
It seems really silly to be giving out orders for an empire which hasn't existed for nearly 60 years. And shouldn't we be celebrating our modern relationship with the Commonwealth rather than something harking back to the past.
I wonder why they haven't done it already and wonder if they're waiting until HM dies to reform it.
Anyway I was wondering what other people thought. Should it change?
