Sorry to post on here but need the traffic! So, our cat has been peeing in carpet in living room. We hired a carpet cleaner to freshen it up and now the smell is soooooo bad! It's overwhelming actually Confused
What can we do to get rid of the smell??? I've heard that baking soda works but the carpet is still wet. Will it still work?
Help me please, it's bloody awful

Try this stuff.

It will need all the underlay, and the flooring underneath thoroughly cleaning as well. Heck of a job really. You will need to eliminate all the smell to stop cat doing it again. If you can’t clean carpet enough, see if it’s possible to match it with a patch if it’s a plain, won’t work with a pattern obviously. That’s a cut out, patch and put a rug on top fix! Good luck.

Biological washing powder and warm water.

Wash regularly and let dry in between.

The enzymes in the powder remove the smells Wink

If your using bicarb, you need to use vinegar with it, its the reaction between the 2 that fizzes it up and gets rid of the smell

TyrionsNextWife · 21/12/2019 15:50

A mixture of white vinegar, biological washing powder and hot water took the cat pee out of my deep pile carpet. Use it really liberally, scrub the carpet well and repeat a few times then rinse with clean water.

hocuspocusbitch · 21/12/2019 15:52

So with bicarbonate and vinegar, so I mix it into a paste or a liquid?

I've used the Vanish pink powder before on our carpet when the cat peed on it and it took the smell away! I've bought another bag just in case the little bugger does it again....

Pancakeflipper · 21/12/2019 16:40

Biological washing powder and then spray with a mix of water and surgical spirit. Cats will return to the place they wee 'd.

YappityYapYap · 21/12/2019 17:00

It's probably soaked into the underlay and possibly the floor boards. Carpet cleaning will just lift stuff out of the actual carpet. Find the areas and literally pour a solution of bi carb/bio washing powder and vinegar and water and let it soak all the way through then blast the heating in the room for half a day to dry it all out then hoover up the left over powder residue

JacquettaW · 21/12/2019 17:20

I used this one. Brilliant, no smell left at all
