Not really an AIBU but just sitting in the front room where DH is installing an Xbox game and am reminded about just how long these things take up to set up and install when you first get them.

I'm sure most of you already know this but if you have consoles as gifts for the DC this Christmas, you might want to consider doing all the set-up stuff in advance in the name of tantrum prevention.

And for a switch too! Mine refused to be linked to my usual email addresses so I had to use an old one TOOK FOREVER

Good thread! DC have tablets and I've turned them on and sorted out accounts/updates already. Not quite as bad as xbox, xbox live often crashes on Christmas due to so many updates.

PlinkPlink · 20/12/2019 16:51

I think this also applies to various toys with multitudes of wire twists and screws and plastic zip ties attached to it.

For a 2 year old, waiting for Mummy to cut through millions of those things only to find it's been screwed to the cardboard (why?!) is 100% guaranteed to induce a tantrum because he can't have it right now.

Thank you for reminding me - and giving me a future warning 😂

Does anyone know if the Xbox one s needs a 4K tv to use it? My son wants it but says it needs a 4K tv? Is that true or is just a normal smart tv ok?

Clymene · 20/12/2019 16:53

Depends what you've got. Our switch took minutes to set up (but we already had a Nintendo account - if you don't, you might want to do that first)

It will work on a normal, fairly modern tv.

Marriedtoapenguin · 20/12/2019 17:02

@PumpkinP a normal TV is fine.

It's not just the console, the game updates can be HUGE as well.

Oh for the days of tapes.

PumpkinP · 20/12/2019 17:04

Thank you, I know nothing about consoles so was clueless!
