Fil kindly won a fully dressed and prepared Christmas Turkey in a silent auction last month contacted the caterer today and have been told fully dressed and stuffed Turkey will be ready for collection tomorrow (saturday) !!! Surely it won't keep ti Wednesday to cook it. I always have a Delia Christmas and she always says only stuff at last minute. My family are all going to get food posing aren't they?

There are already turkeys in supermarkets with sell by dates past Christmas so that shouldn’t be an issue assuming it’s fresh. Can’t comment on the stuffing but ask the caterer? They obviously wouldn’t want anyone getting ill.

Finfintytint · 20/12/2019 08:43

Turkey for Sunday lunch?

Originalusernameunavailable · 20/12/2019 08:46

It’ll be fine as king as it’s kept in the fridge.
I have a family of turkey farmers, the birds are killed around 10th December and hung, they are collected around 23rd onwards. It’s all normal it’s just that you don’t see these details from a supermarket set up.

TheDuckSaysMoo · 20/12/2019 08:48

M&S had collection dates for tomorrow. I collect nine on Sunday. Seems fine to me.

TheDuckSaysMoo · 20/12/2019 08:48

*mine, not nine! Nine would be some feast.

My2ndfavouriteFword · 20/12/2019 08:52

Why don't you ask the caterer?

Mrsjayy · 20/12/2019 08:55

Yes of course it will keep the fresh turkeys went into shops yesterday,

As long as it's kept in the fridge it will be fine, supermarkets have stuffed chickens and turkeys.

Mrsjayy · 20/12/2019 09:08

Turkeys would have been killed weeks ago and kept chilled so I can't see how a turkey you get tomorrow would be off by tues/wednesday

CoolcoolcoolcoolcoolNoDoubt · 20/12/2019 09:12

Stuff like this genuinely wouldn't cross my mind as not being okay.. maybe I need to up my food standards but I've never been ill from it Hmm

Mrsjayy · 20/12/2019 09:15

Im sure the food standards of the company is up to scratch the Op is just having a wobble because it is different to her normal.

Lockheart · 20/12/2019 09:15

If it makes you nervous then freeze it for a couple of days, but it should be ok.

itgetshardereveryday · 20/12/2019 09:17

I'm sure it will be fine.

itgetshardereveryday · 20/12/2019 09:17

On another note, what's a Delia Christmas?

Christmaspug · 20/12/2019 09:18

Poor turkeys don’t want to be dinner 😭

BlastEndedSkrewt · 20/12/2019 09:18

it says it will be ready on Saturday not that you have to collect it on Saturday - leave it for them to keep fresh rather than taking up all your fridge space

Lipz · 20/12/2019 09:19

What on earth is a fully dressed turkey ? I'm picturing tuxedo and top hat and cane and dancing shoes.

I bought my turkeys Wednesday, I've frozen them, is this an option or will the top hat get in the way

Mrsjayy · 20/12/2019 09:20

Depending on the size she would need to take it out to defrost on Sunday they take days to defrost .

Tensixtysix · 20/12/2019 09:20

@Christmaspug. They keep saying 'Gobble, gobble', they're asking to be eaten Grin

Christmasgravy · 20/12/2019 09:24

Ask for an 'undressed' (unstuffed, no garnish) turkey instead if you're worried about all the extras.

You can then keep it in the fridge and do what you like with it!

booboo57 · 20/12/2019 10:12

Thanks everyone. Dont know how to reference or quote questions so here are my answers.
It wasn't the Turkey I was worried about it was the fact it will be stuffed with sausage meat etc for 4 days before its cooked.
Delia Christmas means I follow her Christmas book plan and instructions for the day to the letter and it's not let me down over the years. She even tells you what time to have a glass of something bubbly.
I'm going to be disappointed now if my dressed Turkey is not in top hat and tails. Thanks for making me smile.

They might not have stuffed it so give you the stuffing as a side, some people cook the stuffing seperate.

booboo57 · 20/12/2019 18:03

Still worried about the fact Turkey is stuffed. The caterer is friend of friend who has donated this as a prize for the charity silent auction so I feel a bit meh about questioning/ demanding changes. I've asked twice about the giblets ( so I can make stock for the gravy) and she doesn't answer that question just asks me to confirm I can collect at 7pm tomorrow. I think I'm going to un stuff and freeze the stuffing (or throw away) then re stuff Xmas morning like I'd normally do. Trouble is caterer is friends with both sil and fil who are our guests for lunch on Christmas day and our bound to be asked about the Turkey. Arggh I'm over thinking aren't I?

OP posts:
SleepWarrior · 20/12/2019 18:08

They're not going to ask questions about the specific stuffing and whether it was the right one so don't worry. Just don't tell your guests that you've changed the stuffing. It will all be fine Smile
