Am I being unreasonable in expecting my lodger to buy

Own milk bread
Own aerial and Lenor
Own toilet roll
Own hand wash
Own cooking equipment
Actually help clean kitchen bathroom toilet

All they do is play Xbox
Works 15 hours has no hope in anything absolutely happy just playing games and eating sausages and mash a lot!

Gets housing benefit not full amount but 90%

And earns mw 12 hours - 98 week no tax

And always skint - all clothes have holes in them!

If they use the same bathroom as you I wouldn't expect to keep separate toilet roll or hand wash (although depending on the agreement you have he should probably replace communal stuff now and then). He should buy his own food & washing powder etc though.

AlwaysCheddar · 19/12/2019 16:18

What’s in your agreement?

MoreSexPleaseImBritish · 19/12/2019 16:21

I'd suggest a cash box for household expenses like loo roll and cleaning stuff for you to both contribute in to.
I wouldn't expect them to buy their own kitchen equipment, I would expect them to help keep their room and communal areas in a reasonable state of cleanliness (that's pretty subjective though)

FrenchJunebug · 19/12/2019 16:49

have you told them to?

Elephantlegs · 20/12/2019 12:55

Basically they use whole toilet a day for themselves, then wash they hands a lot, then moan they don't like hand wash?

Washes clothes once week but doesn't wear deodorant and doesn't change clothes so uses double items!

Uses all bread as would rather spend money on games biscuits sweets cakes and Pepsi

At lost here

I'd include household items like cleaning products and loo rolls but expect them to buy their own food. If the cleaning products are becoming too expensive then I'd buy budget brands.

MrsToothyBitch · 20/12/2019 13:17

My last house share we shared:
Kitchen roll
Loo roll
Hand wash
Washing up liquid
Cleaning supplies like bleach, sponges etc
Onions and garlic
Bin bags
It worked fine, we took it roughly in turns. The key thing is whether or not your housemate would remember to share?

We didn't share any further toiletries or food including milk and we bought our own preferred laundry detergents.

My last house share was a live out landlord. Me and the other 2 lodgers would take it in turns to buy toilet roll, bin bags and washing up liquid.
We had a cleaner for the kitchen and bathroom, but cleaned our own bedrooms.

My current house share, the landlord lives there too. She gets the toilet rolls, bin bags and washing up liquid.
The landlord cleans the house but again, we clean our own rooms.

I have never shared food before and would be annoyed if someone ate the stuff I had payed for.
