To ask how much you pay for a cleaner?

I’ve been looking at getting a cleaner and have a few quotes but they vary greatly.

How much do you pay per person per hour for non London cleaning? And how many hours would you expect a 4 bed, 3 bath house to take to clean?

£10 an hour, for 2 hours a week, term time only.

Re time, it depends if you want it all cleaning, what jobs you want doing in each room, how clear / tidy it is to begin with. things like is there a 2nd staircase.

I pay mine for "what she can get done in the 2 hours" rather than "here's X number of jobs".

A cleaner will generally be a lot slower the first time and then quickly speed up - they need to get used to where the sockets are for the vacuum and how far the wire reaches and all the various nuances of your house.

Mulledwineinajug · 17/12/2019 23:45

I pay £16 an hour through an agency for 2 hours a week. 4 bed house.

midnightmisssuki · 17/12/2019 23:47

£12 - £15 per hour. We have a 4 bedroom house and used to have her clean 4-5 hours a week

m0therofdragons · 17/12/2019 23:48

£12.50 per hour in 4 bed. She does 2 hours one week and 3 the next alternating.

Teensruletheroost · 17/12/2019 23:49

£12.50ph here. We do 2.5hrs pw but not all the house is done (5 beds).

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 17/12/2019 23:50

£13/hour

It depends on so much. It could be a really tidy compact 4 bed with just kitchen and living room downstairs that can be done in 2 hours. Or it could be a sprawling cluttered messy 4 bed with kitchen, dining room, snug, living room and conservatory with dog hairs everywhere that 3 hours wouldn’t even finish. I’m a cleaner- 4 bed, 3 bath is meaningless until you’ve seen it.

Beeziekn33ze · 17/12/2019 23:52

£10 per hour, one hour a week, mainly floors, small 3 bed house, Midlands

saraclara · 18/12/2019 00:04

£10 an hour. She used to do three hours for our four bed house, but offered to cut down to two once my daughters left home, as she didn't have enough to do.

anxioussue · 18/12/2019 00:06

£10 an hour round here, £15 from one house.

Pinkbonbon · 18/12/2019 00:13

My mum charges £10ph whenever she does cleaning. I used to get paid that too at a little office cleaning job.

I think £10 is fair but with a bonus at Christmas and the occasional little 'thankyou' gift throughout the year if they go above and beyond ect...

hazandduck · 18/12/2019 00:19

£15 p/h, we only have the cleaner come every couple of weeks as I generally just want the deep cleaning done, windows etc. Two cleaners, 3 bed house, takes a couple of hours.

Defender90 · 18/12/2019 00:24

£12 an hour, 2 hours every two weeks semi rural Scotland.

Saltdoughmuncher · 18/12/2019 01:49

Thanks- these are all much cheaper than I’ve been quoted so I’m now querying the state of my house!

It’s 4 double bedrooms, kitchen/diner, 3 baths rooms, 1 staircase, a large lounge. Then has a playroom and study but I’ve said not to clean those. It is slightly messy but not horrendously so (2 small children and a busy household).

One quote was £86 a fortnight which included cleaning pretty much everything with no time limit.

The other was 2 people for 2 hours per week at a cost of £70!

Seems I could have 7 hours on the rate some of you pay which would do my entire house twice over! Maybe I need to keep searching. Both quotes are an agency as I live fairly rurally options are limited.

£15 an hour. Four hours = £60
4 beds. 3 baths. But only cleans 1 bedroom.
Big lounge, Big dinning room. Lots of floors and lots of dusting....
Could really do it in 3 hours....

Iseethesilverlining · 18/12/2019 02:09

I pay £3.50 per hour to the agency and £9.50 per hour to the cleaner. 6 hours per week for 4 bed 4 bath 3 reception house - she does quite a bit of tidying though too.

Olive30 · 18/12/2019 03:00

We pay £70 per clean. The agency work per job not by the hour. 4 bed, 2 bathroom, relatively tidy house. It is more expensive when compared to an individual cleaner maybe but everything gets done, they have insurance etc.., are reliable and treat their staff pretty well.

YahBasic · 18/12/2019 03:32

4 bed 2 bath and we pay £13 ph (South West).

They come every week for two hours, but not all of our bedrooms are used, so they can do it all in that time.

Boristhecats · 18/12/2019 06:40

Have u been on your local Facebook. I used to do cleaning ( I’m now a full time housekeeper ) and I got all of my first jobs off the local Facebook page.

Daffodildainty · 18/12/2019 18:25

£50 per clean 4 bedroom house - no specific hours- mostly only 2 of us here so not too much to do. I pay £60 if the top floor is done too ( when DD goes back to uni). I pay for 4 weeks holiday a year and double salary at Christmas. Cleaner also irons -£1 per item, £2 per duvet cover

victoriashleigh · 18/12/2019 18:49

£13 p/h and she does 3 hours a week. Huge living room/study, hallways and landing, one bedroom cleaned fully (including bedding change) and a quick go over the two other bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen sparkling spotless, bins out, all floors and stairs hoovered and mopped, all dusting, plus any little jobs she finds along the way like emptying dishwasher etc. She will do the windows about once a month as well.

LoonyLunaLoo · 18/12/2019 18:58

£11 per hour. We only have a 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom house though. 2 of the bedrooms are double and one is used as an office. Our cleaner only does an hour and a half a week for us and gibes everywhere a good once over.

thiscouldbethehill · 18/12/2019 19:00

£10 an hour to cleaner and £3.50 an hour to cleaning company. Three hours a week. My cleaner is fantastic and worth every penny.

Duvetdweller · 18/12/2019 19:06

£12 an hour, 2 of them come in for 1.5 hours every week. 4 beds, 3 baths. They don’t do one bedroom because it isn’t used. House is very, very tidy for them and they need all the time I would say.

PicaK · 18/12/2019 19:23

£50 for 2 cleaners for just over an hour - same kind of house.

Zerrin13 · 18/12/2019 19:40

For a house such as yours I would allow 4 hours at £16.00 per hour.
