John Warboys has today been given a life sentence for four further rapes but there is nothing in place to ensure he stays in prison until he dies.

Cant see that this needs a vote. Cant imagine anyone is going to disagree.

TheMustressMhor · 17/12/2019 18:38

Well @humblesims it seems that some people do disagree.

I cannot think why either.

CoolCarrie · 17/12/2019 18:39

He should be in jail until he dies, no second chance for scum like him

WhatshouldIdo123 · 17/12/2019 18:39

YANBU. I am a mother of a rape victim. She was utterly failed by the justice. I hope his victims get some closure now.

TheMustressMhor · 17/12/2019 18:39

Can people who have voted YABU explain why?

OP posts:
TheMustressMhor · 17/12/2019 18:41

He was almost released a few months ago but new victims came forward.

I still can't get over that he was going to be released as 'no longer a danger.' Not dangerous to women? .. a plausible seeming man who spiked drinks to rape and rape and rape.

TheMustressMhor · 17/12/2019 18:44

I know charley50. It doesn't seem possible that this man was nearly allowed out on parole, where he would very likely have raped even more women.

OP posts:
TheMustressMhor · 17/12/2019 18:51

I can only hope that the one in five (almost) people who have voted YABU have done so mistakenly.

I sort of feel that he must have showed rehabilitation to come up for release, and then there was a particular campaign against him to stop that, whereas other criminals simply slide out of jail unnoticed - but on the other hand it's still pretty much his own fault, so i'll butt out of it.

yolofish · 18/12/2019 14:54

I can't understand how "two life sentences (or was it three?)" means he will be eligible to be considered for parole in six years? I mean, how does that actually work?

Charley50 · 18/12/2019 22:31

@Zebulon2002 - he convinced parole service that he was reformed because he was/is a highly manipulative individual and they were stupid misogynist arseholes. When his victims and other women (the general public) were told he was going to be released there was a lot of outrage and the decision to release him was fought and reversed.

Charley50 · 18/12/2019 22:38

He drugged and raped around 100 women, according to police, while in a position of trust. He shouldn't ever be let out.

MaxNormal · 18/12/2019 23:08

This might be controversial but I doubt that most sex offenders can be rehabilitated.

EL8888 · 18/12/2019 23:48

Totally reasonable. He’s a danger to all women and shouldn’t be released. Clearly he just can’t help himself

BigChocFrenzy · 19/12/2019 12:13

"This might be controversial but I doubt that most sex offenders can be rehabilitated."

my opinion too

A rapist of adults / teens is mostly no longer capable at age 75+ of catching and overpowering their victims ... but can still drug them

A rapist of small children could be dangerous for as long as they can get out of their chair

So it may boil down to how much tax people are prepared to pay to keep those violent criminals locked up who are likely to repeat their offences
Remembering that some of the population will be making excuses for rapists anyway

Evilmorty · 19/12/2019 12:18

This is one of those situations where I don’t agree with a death penalty but if he were to die horribly in another way, I would be pleased about it.

nowaypose · 19/12/2019 12:19

Completely agree.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 19/12/2019 13:07

Yanbu

It was shocking he was considered for parole last year a serial rapist who had only served a shirt sentence. Bad judgement and at times professionals get it wrong thankfully their decision was overturned

I work in rehabilitation some people are beyond rehabilitation and sex offenders rarely change - it wasn’t that long ago it was believed that intense psychological work may change the person (not all) I think that is now a dated view

DonKeyshot · 19/12/2019 13:11

I think it's accepted that this latest life sentence means that Warboys will not be released and is likely to die in prison which, imo, would demonstrate that justice has been served.

Needatranslator · 19/12/2019 13:23

Seeing as one of his victims was Boris Johnson’s gf I would say it’s unlikely he will be released any time soon. I certainly agree he should stay in prison for life, or at least so frail he’s no longer a danger. Was he actually found guilty of 100 rapes? I thought they didn’t prosecute for all of the suspected ones?

I don't believe in capital punishment but then i think of the 100 lives this man has blighted forever.

BlaueLagune · 19/12/2019 13:26

I agree - not those who are true sex offenders anyway, as opposed to ones who have consenting sex in public or boys with their 15 year old girlfriends.

He deserves to stay in prison until he dies.

There are a lot of people who get locked up who shouldn't be, but he definitely isn't one of them.
