This was a bit fucking weird/rude

We work for a large organisation. We were moved to our office about 18 months ago we have been kind of slotted in with another huge team (adults) and we are children’s.

So the whole of the upper part of the building and 1/2 of the bottom is them and the rest is us and another small team.

We are friendly with the other teams but do totally different jobs.

Yesterday some of them asked us to buy raffle tickets for a children’s charity and we did.

Today I came back to the office from a meeting and the entire office was full of people in party hats, conference room full of party food, music, people with babies on maternity leave there and people who don’t usually work a Tuesday.

In the middle of this is our team, not invited to join and trying to take calls/work.

AIBU to think if they weren’t going to invite us they should at least have had their party upstairs (which is bigger and there is a huge kitchen)?

It was really weird, uncomfortable (being sat in the middle of a party you are not invited to) and fucking difficult to work!

Sorry - forgot to say that apparently they did the raffle and our team have won most of the prizes Grin

Weird rather than intentionally rude perhaps. The party organisers obviously didn’t think things through.

Iwasneveragoddess · 17/12/2019 17:02

Even an email just letting us know would have been better.

yanbu at all. I saw a few days ago on fb a picture of the work 'staff meal out' and yet half of us weren't included or invited Confused

Iwasneveragoddess · 17/12/2019 17:04

We wouldn’t normally have an Xmas do with them, but to have the party around us was Confused

IceCreamFace · 17/12/2019 17:06

Errr very wierd and thoughtless.

AryaStarkWolf · 17/12/2019 17:08

Yeah very very odd behaviour, glad you lot won most of the prizes though Grin

Equanimitas · 17/12/2019 17:12

Your team leader should have spoken to them about it at the time. It would have been reasonable to work on the assumption that you were in fact all invited.

ActualHornist · 17/12/2019 17:15

I'm not being funny but where was your management team in all of this? They just stood around allowing you to be inconvenienced while doing your job? Not one person asked them to move it upstairs?

Completely unreasonable and out of order, especially as there was children and presumably some other non-staff members there?!

Iwasneveragoddess · 17/12/2019 17:18

Well there are 10 of us and about 50/60 of them (in total today with the “extras”).

We work in CP too so we were taking calls...

OP posts:
Cherrysoup · 17/12/2019 17:33

Extremely unreasonable if you were meant to work round them. Why on earth didn’t they just use the upstairs? Illogical!

Iwasneveragoddess · 17/12/2019 17:35

I know - we had to walk through them all and past the food to get to the loo! 😂😂

OP posts:
Dyrne · 17/12/2019 17:36

I’d definitely say your managers have let you down here. They should have had a word with the managers of the other team and got them to move things upstairs - to just sit and let you answer calls from service users with the rowdiness in the background is appalling

HanginWithMyGnomies · 17/12/2019 17:42

No, that’s ridiculous. So you’re taking cp calls with a party going on around you!

Never mind having a party in the office space in the first place the lack of thought from middle management for others trying to do there job, in an open plan office? is severely lacking.

Glad you all swiped the goodies though ;)

VenusTiger · 17/12/2019 17:53

Are you sure they didn’t hold it there in the hope you’d all naturally join in?

RedLipstickHighHeels · 17/12/2019 17:55

Poor judgement & organisation.taking cp and duty calls whilst half office having a chatty loud party
From a professional POV wholly inappropriate
Was it planned to be in your space or was it party strayed to your part of office

RedLipstickHighHeels · 17/12/2019 17:57

Venus, irrespective of whether it was hoped c&f would join in,its a professional office
Duty and scheduled calls and work still need to be done. You can’t close for half day

Iwasneveragoddess · 17/12/2019 18:00

All the food was in the conference room which is downstairs, yet there is a large kitchen with seating upstairs.

It seemed a bit nuts, unless of course there were people from there team on duty upstairs who they didn’t want to disturb! Hmm but most of them seemed to be involved.

TheMustressMhor · 17/12/2019 18:08

That sounds utterly bizarre.

BlueBirdGreenFence · 17/12/2019 18:14

That sounds like managements fault rather than the team's.

BloggersBlog · 17/12/2019 18:27

So you are taking CP calls with all the hilarity going on in the background Hmm? V odd

RedLipstickHighHeels · 17/12/2019 18:29

Wholly inappropriate taking duty and cp calls in that environment
It’s a staff failure in that those there should and do know better nad carried on
Potentially management failure if they were aware and didn’t intervene

Mix56 · 17/12/2019 18:31

join in

RedLipstickHighHeels · 17/12/2019 18:54

In my work staff partners/children aren’t allowed to visit due to sensitive nature of the work
The content of calls, professional discussions and what’s on the pc screen

Iwasneveragoddess · 17/12/2019 18:55

@RedLipstickHighHeels.

Yeah I thought we also had this rule....
