What’s happened here...?

My friend moved into her house a year ago. Earlier in the summer in her enclosed back garden she found a full size plastic domestic bin buried in a flower bed with the lid at the level of the soil. This contained bird feed (fat balls) and some other rubbish (?what). The bin was stuck fast, and she was looking at options to remove it. Last month, she suddenly noticed that the bin was lifted out of the soil, lying on its side by the perfect shaped hole that it had left behind. Few knew about this bin and no one had been given access or permission to remove it. There was a brief period in November when her side gate was unlocked. This is an unexplained incident and a little disturbing. Why would the previous owners have a bin buried in the flower bed and why, what, whom would have lifted it out?

Hmm that is very odd. Were there any holes in the bin?

ohhshizz · 17/12/2019 14:10

Is anything left in the bin?

user1493413286 · 17/12/2019 14:16

I guess they’d hidden something important or valuable in there and belatedly remembered so came back for it. Very odd to be honest.

PloddingPandaMum · 17/12/2019 14:18

Could it have been a food composter? They're usually plastic funnels or containers set into soil with the lid flush. You could expect to see fat balls in there I suppose as you can compost meat and fatty things in the. I think. Possibly dug up by a fox?

PointlessUsername · 17/12/2019 14:20

How odd. Nothing in the hole it left?

Biddie191 · 17/12/2019 14:20

Either a compost bin or a dog poo bin, probably?

MoonlightBringsSanity · 17/12/2019 15:22

There’s nothing left in the bin. I thought the same about them coming back for something dodgy they had left behind. There are no holes in the bin to be a compost or dog poo bin. She is sending me some photos in a mo..

Here are the pictures of the bin

This sounds really bizarre, the bin itself isn't so bizarre as could have been composter or something.. but someone coming in and removing it from the hole is v bizarre. Hope she finds out!

Do any neighbours have those Ring doorbells or similar that overlook her side gate so she could try see who went in?

TeeBee · 17/12/2019 15:27

Stolen goods/money.

CSIblonde · 17/12/2019 15:29

How odd. The only thing I thought was on my walk to Asda, I go v v early & a woman was always dropping something that looked like takeout in a white thin bag in a garden right next to its bins. I leant over wall & looked one day: bags & bags of what looked like weed in a takeout container. Maybe as pp said it was also a hiding place - the or they'd take the bin.

QueenofPain · 17/12/2019 15:30

Maybe previous owners used the space under the bin to store drugs or money or something else they didn’t want hidden anywhere obvious.

supercatlady · 17/12/2019 15:30

Maybe they buried something under the bin and left the bin/composter there so they could find it again

Rachelfromfriends1 · 17/12/2019 15:32

It’s odd. It’s obviously someone coming back to retrieve something.

I would just be relieved that it wasn’t something more sinister like remains. If they were picking up proceeds of crime I would also be thankful it’s gone now and you don’t have the weight over your shoulders eg what if they come back or accuse you of tampering with it.

Well, that's if the "right" baddies have got the stash. Might be bad news if it's the "wrong" baddies (thinks of "Shallow Grave")

LolaDabestest · 17/12/2019 16:27

Most probably drugs or money buried by a random or possibly previous owner she could have contacted them to ask wtf.

MoonlightBringsSanity · 17/12/2019 18:16

I’m going over in the morning and we will investigate further. Thanks for all your ideas.

Could the rain water not caused it to lift out?

puds11 · 17/12/2019 18:20

Terrible use of English there

TheJoxter · 18/12/2019 16:02

@puds11 rain water could maybe loosen it up but wouldn’t have lifted it all the way out, emptied it, and left it by the hole!

puds11 · 18/12/2019 16:30

Oh I didn’t realise they emptied the bin. Doesn’t say that in the OP.
