To be grinning like a loon

Im a republican. I would never bend my knee to the Queen and I think the Royal family is firked up at an entity. The Andrew business hasnt helped their cause one but and Im pleased about that.
So why in Gods name am I grinning like a fool all the way through Mary Berrys Christmas programme every time William and Kate appear on the screen?
Its baffling to me but for some reason Im reacting as if a favourite nephew and his new wife are being lovely grown ups -talking to other people properly and everything.
I must be having a weak moment.

I think they are both lovely, I will be all happy and smiley when I watch it tomorrow.

slipperywhensparticus · 16/12/2019 21:29

They seem lovely and really tall compared to Mary berry

Apackoflips · 16/12/2019 22:43

Oh lord - just proof read the OP and I swear it was okay and made sense when it left me.
Plus I have no idea how or why the voting appeared.

Bloody hell.

I feel the same, cried at their wedding too. I would get rid of the Royal family tomorrow but like to see Diana's boys being happy.

cantfindname · 16/12/2019 23:57

Mary Berry makes me smile anyway, and that's before you add two very charismatic Royals into the mix. Also not a royalist by any stretch of the imagination but these two are like a breathe of fresh air.

NearlyGranny · 17/12/2019 00:07

It was high time the royal family had some tall genes mixed in!

Mary Berry is still probably taller than HMQ. You don't have to approve or be a royalist to appreciate good manners and nice people. I hope and trust they are raising the next generation to be nicer, better balanced people, too. It must be in the back of their minds that their DC may well grow up into a world without titles and courtiers and that they need to be equipped to cope.

I've always been a republican but there's no malice in it, just democratic beliefs. Nobody is 'born to rule' others, even if Eton tries to convince them they are. 😉

It was a lovely thing to watch. After weeks of arguing, backstabbing and nonsense it was a heartwarming look at charities, an insight in to royal life and a Mary Berry cooking class. With a side of the beautiful Nadia who looked amazing in purple.
Just what was needed

Is this the Prince William that's allegedly been having an affair with and shagging his wife's friend? I couldn't put up with that shit. Imagine having to put it on for the cameras. Grim

VanyaHargreeves · 17/12/2019 00:49

The key word of course is "allegedly"

She has a close knit supportive family.

Her parents are millionaires anyway. She'd have a huge settlement, and still be attractive to good causes. Her lifestyle wouldn't change.

I don't think she'd be long copying her late MIL if it was a case of Like Father, Like Son

Nothing to lose.

I thought it was a good watch too! Nadiya looked amazing in purple.
At the risk of sounding old hat, it was quite refreshing watching a programme full of manners and respect from the whole mixed bag of people there!

Bluerussian · 17/12/2019 02:12

I think Kate and William are generally liked and their children are gorgeous. The appear to be a lovely family and good role models. When it comes to them, views on the monarchy go out the window. It's quite natural so don't let it worry you :-).

AlorMy · 17/12/2019 19:23

This documentary shows that Will and Kate have a PR team that understands, on an intrinsic level, the British sentiment.

Choosing Mary Berry as their unofficial interviewer was genius. MB is the nation’s favourite grandmother. She has experienced her own grief with this of her son. She is savvy and cool. She is successful but humble and with personal integrity.

Meghan and Harry woukd do well to take note.

VanyaHargreeves · 17/12/2019 21:55

I'm now watching this

It is excellent PR

The Royal type programmes should be more like this than chronicling overseas meet and greets.

Down to Earth, celebrating the hard working

KarmaStar · 17/12/2019 22:39

What do you mean by "grinning like a loon" exactly?

VanyaHargreeves · 17/12/2019 22:42

Good point, not a great turn of phrase now you've highlighted it Confused
