One DC missed the first day of term in September (SEN and anxiety/school refusal some mornings). It was marked at unauthorised, which was fair as I didn't ring them in time.
It has now been removed, which has increased the attendance slightly , 98.9%
Aibu to think this is strange as it was 3 months ago?

It's based on the whole school year. Not just one month or any else.

TeenPlusTwenties · 16/12/2019 15:46

If we've had 10 weeks of school that is 10x5x2=100 sessions.
A whole day out of that is 2 sessions which is 2% => 98% attendance.
As time goes on 2 missing sessions becomes a smaller % of the whole.

What are you finding strange, the fact he isn't at 100% or the fact that 2 sessions makes 1.1% difference on attendance?

formerbabe · 16/12/2019 15:49

What do you think is strange?

Spikeyball · 16/12/2019 15:54

I think the OP thinks it is strange that it was marked as unauthorised and now it is not.

TeenPlusTwenties · 16/12/2019 15:54

Plus if he was absent he was absent. It will still show up as absent whether or not it was authorised.

HomelessnessIsABigIssue · 16/12/2019 15:59

Why do you even care?? So odd

RedWineIsFabulous · 16/12/2019 16:05

So what?

What's the issue here?

Please don't tell me you are one of these parents obsessed with 100% attendance.

belay · 16/12/2019 17:12

Wow can't believe how easily people make accusations in here. As a parent of a child with SEN I am not obsessed with attendance ! I already said he has school refusal issues. What I am finding odd is the change on the attendance register

OP posts:
MiniEggAddiction · 16/12/2019 17:15

I would also not care. His attendance is high so whether a few percentage points really don't matter either way.

formerbabe · 16/12/2019 17:33

Admin error? Or just ask them?

StillCoughingandLaughing · 16/12/2019 17:41

Where are the ‘accusations’?

Maybe they’ve assessed it and decided it shouldn’t be unauthorised as they’ve now had your explanation. I thought unauthorised absences were intended to highlight truancy? Perhaps they don’t want ‘forgot to ring in’ lumped in with that.

Sirzy · 16/12/2019 17:46

Makes no difference to the child in the long run if it’s marked authorised or not. Won’t change the attendance figure either way because he still isn’t there

TeenPlusTwenties · 16/12/2019 21:40

They've probably done a check through unauthorised absences prior to sending out the reports, saw your DC's and said 'oh yes mum said it was refusal due to SEN - make that authorised'.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 16/12/2019 21:54

Wow can't believe how easily people make accusations in here.

What accusations? You've posted an OP with scant information, about something that can easily be solved by just asking the school (certainly no-one here knows the answer) and not explained why you have a concern about it. So people have speculated - and you've called the speculation 'accusations'.

Atalune · 16/12/2019 21:56

Touchy.

TheReluctantCountess · 16/12/2019 21:59

What do you mean by it has been removed? Has he now been marked as present for that day?

BrieAndChilli · 16/12/2019 21:59

Attendance is based on the whole school year.
So if he had the first day of school of his attendance would be 0% as he has been absent for 100% of the school year up to that date.
A month later (say 20 school days) his attendance rate would be 95%, then as time goes on through out the year as the proportion of time he has had off becomes smaller in comparison to the time he has spent in school.

sauvignonblancplz · 16/12/2019 22:04

Come again?
Why do you care?
