Scottish Power should have turned up

Over the last few weeks they have sent texts every other day and about 4 emails reminding me that they’re coming between 8-12 noon today.
As yet no sign of them and no message to say when they might materialise.
AIBU to think If you are going to sent constant reminders to customers the least you can do is turn up between the hours you have reminded them to be in for?

This has happen to me three times with Scottish power, they bombard you with reminders but never show !!!

Bjorksswandress · 16/12/2019 12:52

Forgot to say they are supposed to be fitting smart meters. Though that doesn’t really make any difference to the AIBU.

Oh nooo moo. That’s really bad. I’m only getting a smart meter because it’s a condition of the deal I signed up for. As long as they carry on charging the same price per unit of energy I don’t care whether I have them or not. But I don’t want to be stuck in waiting only for them to not turn up. What did you do in the end after 3 no shows?

We had this although they did have the decency to cancel on the morning as 'there isn't anyone in your area today after all' but by then I'd booked the day off. Like you we needed the smart meter to qualify for the cheap rate- they finally did it last week, three months after we switched to them. Having read reviews really regretting it, they might be cheap but they're fucking awful time wasters otherwise Confused

Bjorksswandress · 16/12/2019 13:13

just phoned Scottish power who were very apologetic and are arranging compensation as they have it listed for today but the company fitting the meters had no record of it in their books. Scottish Power assistant says not to bother rearranging it as it’s their fault. He said they might ask at some point if I want one but not to bother chasing it up! All very weird! But at least the phone was answered quickly and they assistant was very helpful.

I wouldn't bother with them, they came out to us back in September to fit a smart metre. It never worked. Called them a month ago to be told they're having issues with smart metres at the moment, they can't do anything and don't know when it will be sorted. Totally incompetent considering we only had one due to the amount of nagging we had from then. They lost us as a customer anyway, at the end of our contract a couple of weeks ago we moved suppliers.

BeUpStanding · 16/12/2019 13:40

Scottish Power are fucking shit. Never believe a word they tell you.

Bjorksswandress · 16/12/2019 17:00

Well I got an email thanking me for having a smart meter fitted and asking me to review it so the daft sods appear to think I’ve now got one! I’m just going to leave it. My neighbour went on the same deal as me at the same time and he’s had no end of shit from them too. Seems it’s not just us being unlucky.

Sounds like you dodged a smart meter bullet there. Cheaper deal and no meter....result!

1happyhippie · 16/12/2019 17:07

Scottish power are awful. I had a prepayment meter and wanted it removed. Three times they made appointments to come and switch it over and not once did they turn up!
I ended up changing suppliers and got new meters. Then Scottish power were sending me bills of money they said I owed. I had a prepayment meter all the way through my time with them. Never had debt on it and never used the emergency credit. How could I possibly owe them? They wouldn’t listen every time I called about it, just kept sending another bloody bill!
Ending up going to the citizens advice for help.
Awful customer service.

Bjorksswandress · 16/12/2019 20:27

Fuzzy yes they’ve only got themselves to blame as I now have the cheaper deal. I’m not chasing them up to get their act together as I didn’t want a smart meter anyhow. They do seem hopeless.

I know a smart meter fitter- not for Scottish power, but they're all similar. The pressure these engineers are under is unreal. Each gas and electric combination takes up to 2 hours to fit, they're up to an hour driving between appointments, and they're given 5 jobs to fit into a 7.5 hour day, alongside stock management, etc. There is no way that all of the jobs booked in can be completed, and the engineers are the ones who bear the brunt of it.

KnobJockey · 16/12/2019 20:34

But, regardless, smart meters are pointless anyway. Ignore the emails and chasing texts and enjoy the cheaper tariff!

Bjorksswandress · 16/12/2019 20:37

knobjockey sounds grim. My job hadn’t got as far as being entered into the fitting company’s diary for some reason according to Scottish Power. Scottish Power knew about it hence the barrage of reminder texts but they didn’t know why the fitters didn’t have it logged 🤷🏽‍♀️

I arranged for a smart gas and electric meter to be done. I told them over the phone that we have a medium pressure gas meter rather than a standard one. They still sent someone who wasn't qualified to work on medium pressure meters. So that was a fail. They then fitted the electric one but couldn't get it to connect to their network at all.

100% fail.

userxx · 16/12/2019 20:44

I find ScottishPower expensive. I do like the smart meter when it actually works.
