In keeping ds off school today?

DS (Just turned 6 so in kindergarten) was off school all last week with a really high fever, croup and laryngitis.

He's I'd say 90% better today and I intended to send him today until found out the class is doing a long hike.

It going to be a feels like of -12 while they're walking and he's not always great about having coat done up wearing gloves etc.

Aibu to think that a: they shouldn't be bloody going when it's that cold anyway and b: I'll just keep him home or send him after the hike?

DH is doing his usual 'whatever you think is best'. Hmm

You're doing the right thing I reckon - really cold air not great for setting off chest/throat/coughs etc when you're still in the recovery stage. He's 6 and he's been ill - long hike in freezing cold isn't what he needs!

Definitely wise to keep him off in my opinion. After an illness like that it takes a bit of time to build up full strength and health. Vigorous exercise isn't what he needs, particularly given how cold it will be.

YANBU. The hike is not unreasonable for healthy children, but would be too much for a child not back to full health.

I don't keep mine off often, and they normally plough on through regular things like colds, but if something has hit them hard, an extra day of rest is better than rushing them back to normality and draining them when they're already on basic function.

DH is going to contact the school and ask if there would be something else for ds to do instead of going on the hike.

He's already missed about 3 weeks this school year because of severe gastro issues, thank goodness they're more relaxed about absence where we live!

YANBU, not the best idea for him to do a long hike in chilly weather when he's not quite 100% yet. Fine for the healthy children though.
