Travel advice to Portugal

Sorry not an aibu at all but posting for traffic and hoping someone has some helpful advice. We are travelling to portugal over New Year for 1 week and my 9 year old son's passport expires mid March, will that be ok or do we need longer? Different websites seem to say different things and now with Brexit thrown in I don't want to take any chances! My husband had an appointment at the passport office today for a 1 week turn around passport but a careless driver crashed into him and has written off his car when he was on his way there! Thankfully all parties are fine! But now in a dilemma, do I try and rebook a new appointment or just think it will be fine since passport is valid for duration of stay?

I believe that you should have 6 months left on a passport
I renewed mine before the 6 months, but I flew long haul
I didn't want to chance any problems

For Portugal it just needs to be valid for the duration of your stay. If there was a no deal Brexit you'd need 6 months but that hasnt happened yet.

From the above link:

Your passport should be valid for the proposed duration of your stay; you don’t need any additional period of validity on your passport beyond this
