Politics shouldn't be in AIBU

I wondered whether anyone else felt as fed up as I am with non stop politics in AIBU threads ?

Can't we please start up a politics topic section ?

I know it's an important topic, especially today, but I think it would be better to have a dedicated Politics section rather than fill up the AIBU threads.

So AIBU wanting this ?

But... this is a politics thread.

Anyway, AIBU will reflect the concerns of the day. This is the big concern today.

IckyIsAFuckingStupidWord · 13/12/2019 11:32

There already is a Politics section on MN but people use AIBU for ‘traffic’.

PurpleDaisies · 13/12/2019 11:34

There’s just been a general election. Of course people are going to be talking politics. It will calm down again.

Ffsseriously · 13/12/2019 11:34

I agree I am political and interested but so fed up with aibu being all politics.

PurpleDaisies · 13/12/2019 11:35

And it’s not as if AIBU is going to “fill up”. There’s not a limit on the number of threads that can be posted in each topic.

Spinderellacutituponetime · 13/12/2019 11:36

Don’t read them?

Sparklingbrook · 13/12/2019 11:37

Just hide the threads as you go along. All I seemed to be reading in AIBU politics threads last night was 'Fuck Off'. Maybe we need a Fuck Off topic?

AlexaShutUp · 13/12/2019 11:39

YABVU.

There is already a politics section, but the election is important and people can talk about it wherever they like.

Most of the threads in AIBU would fit into one of the other topics, e.g. parenting, relationships, education, pregnancy. Would you like to banish all of those threads to the appropriate topic too? Thought not.

Sparklingbrook · 13/12/2019 11:41

AIBU isn't a serious topic anyway (someone ages ago suggested renaming it Petty Gripes), most threads would be better off elsewhere but if you want to be goady, push some buttons and wind people up AIBU is where it's at.

BeanTownNancy · 13/12/2019 11:57

I'm making liberal use of the "Hide Thread" button today.

Witchend · 13/12/2019 12:10

Own goal here!

Lockheart · 13/12/2019 12:26

YANBU.

AIBU is asking for if you're being unreasonable. It's not for sticking AIBU in front of any old shite and pretending as though it belongs here. 'AIBU to buy this?' 'AIBU to ask you for recipes because Google is broken where I live and I'm lazy-' 'AIBU to think this thing?'

That's what chat is for.

ShinyGiratina · 13/12/2019 12:30

There is a politics board.

It is natural when there is a major political event that it will spill over into popular general chat topics.

Baguetteaboutit · 13/12/2019 12:30

I think it's fine. It's the most active board and I think it's reasonable to spill out of the politics board during a general election. In a few days it'll be swamped by Christmas threads even though there's a Christmas board, swiftly followed by people complaining about being skint and putting on weight.

It's not like Aibu is doing something useful anyway.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 13/12/2019 12:32

A politics thread asking for no politics thread...... er,.... alrighty then Grin

YABU

(At least it's not like after the referendum. The amount of Brexit threads and bunfights was absolutely bonkers the days after that.
Think everybody eventually got pissed off enough for MN to create their own Brexit board to stop it taking over Grin
