Can I still make soup from this chicken?

Cooked it on Sunday, made stew with some more of the meat on Monday and it's been in the fridge ever since. Is it still going to be safe to make a pot of stock with the remnants?

Yeah I would

IHeartKingThistle · 12/12/2019 08:35

I wouldn't after 3 days.

cookiemonster5 · 12/12/2019 08:36

At 4 days old I would t risk it.

DownToTheSeaAgain · 12/12/2019 08:37

Yes of course it is. The stock will be boiled and you can always cook it a little longer to be sure. Worst that will happen is the stock doesn't taste ok in which case don't use it but I think that is unlikely.

FYI I freeze chicken bones for when I have time to make stock. Works fine.

GruciusMalfoy · 12/12/2019 08:38

I wouldn't.

Ponoka7 · 12/12/2019 08:38

I haven't got the time to have the shits, so I wouldn't.

If you're planning on being at home and will be able to get to a toilet, you could do.

Twickerhun · 12/12/2019 08:38

I’m really relaxed about these things but I wouldn’t use a chicken after 4 days.

milliefiori · 12/12/2019 08:40

I wouldn't either. Day 3, yes. But no longer. It's not worth risking illness for the sake of a bit of stock.

slalomsuki · 12/12/2019 08:41

I would because you are boiling it which will kill the bacteria.

fluffedupferretonsteroids · 12/12/2019 08:45

Nope please dont, three days it will last for. You might be fine you might not. If you are cooking for children, pregnant women or elderly people then it's even more dangerous.

MerryDeath · 12/12/2019 08:46

i'd give it a sniff and decide from that. I'm pregnant!

Xiaoxiong · 12/12/2019 09:02

I would, you're going to be boiling it for hours. That's how you sterilise things anyway,

Xiaoxiong · 12/12/2019 09:03

I wouldn't use any of the meat stripped off the carcass though. And obviously not if it's already stinking out your fridge.

Teachermaths · 12/12/2019 09:10

I would... But I'm towards the lax end of the food hygiene spectrum!

Lipperfromchipper · 12/12/2019 09:12

No I wouldn’t

MrsJasonIsbell · 12/12/2019 09:14

Yes, absolutely!

fligglepige · 12/12/2019 09:16

No, 3 days only. I used to be really lax until I got pregnant and developed the ability to sniff out food going off like a blood hound. DH wouldn't listen to me about some cooked veg that I knew was off, ate it anyway and had the shits for days.
