AIBU about admin?

I work in a really efficient admin team for a medium sized company however I feel like we are seriously looked down upon by other colleagues. Why do people treat administrators so poorly? Most of us have degrees or have completed higher education and yet I feel totally inferior. AIBU to find another job or are all offices like this?

Am I being unreasonable?

I don’t think all offices are like that. I have a few friends who work as administrators in law firms and their colleagues really value them because they know they enable them to get their job done/earn their nice bonuses. Look for another job somewhere everyone is respected.

I once worked for a company where the MD didn't talk to accounts or admin staff, not even if we held a door open for him and not even at the Christmas party. He replied to our emails with one word answers too, not even a hello. I left pretty quickly.

I am an administrator, I do very basic admin as I have no qualifications and I was a SAHM for 4 years before so my skills were a bit rusty.

Nobody looks down on me at work. Essentially I do all the menial jobs that the higher level employees don't have time to do. I'm treated very well, as although my job is basic the office would be in chaos if I didn't do it. I get the same bonuses as everyone else every year.

Our directors are great, they never look down on us.

I work in a school and the teaching staff can be awful. I once had a teacher hand me a folder because a few hole punched pages had become loose and just needed to be Threaded back on the spine if you see what I mean. She handed it over saying “Ice, sort that out for me will you”. I must have looked at her like she was mad and she said “ oooh someone’s in a bad mood”. My DH also works in a school in a managerial role but not teaching after coming from a completely different profession and he cannot believe how admin staff are treated.

I’m in admin and well qualified. Yup, looked down on. Currently job searching out of sector.

I don't think all offices are the same.
All staff are equally important to the running of the company or they wouldn't need to be there!
If you can look for another job.

Agreed that is the company that's the problem, not the job.

What type of admin do you work in?

I do always find it strange when people go and get a degree then are happy to take £16,000 a year admin jobs (unless it's specialist of course).
