When to worry about a cough?

My 14 month old DS has a cough and full of snot. He’s had the snotty nose since Friday and the cough since Sunday. His cough sounds very phleghmy and like he’s coughing stuff up. We went to the GP on Monday and she checked his chest which was clear, his oxygen level was 98% and his heart rate was 140, which was apparently fine. His temp was slightly raised at 37.7.
He’s got quite ‘noisy’ breathing at the moment, which apparently is normal according to the GP as it’s all the mucous in his airways.
He’s not eating much at all, but drinking milk & water.
He’s not sleeping much at night, because he struggles when laying flat, which is torturous for us too because we’re both going to work on very little sleep. He’s with his grandparents today.

Can anyone advise? I hate it when he coughs and when I can hear all the mucous in his throat, it makes me really anxious. He was in hospital with broncholitis this time last year coincidentally. Which is why I keep feeling panicky.

Poor little guy. I would take him back to gp in a few days if no better to rule out the need for antibiotics. Unfortunately however a lot of these viral infections last a very long time and can be quite nasty so you might need to ride it out.

However, if he is sucking in around his ribs when breathing, nostrils flaring, temp you can’t control then a&e it is.

I have no medical background but a child who goes to hospital with respiratory problems a lot Confused

@hensolo I checked his ribs this morning and there was no sucking in, haven’t noticed nostrils flaring, but he’s got a lot of snot there. He hasn’t got a temp anymore either.
