To think we should just get a plumber?

The central heating has been playing up for a while. DP regularly does the bleeding radiator dance all around the house.
This morning, the pump was on, the pipes next to it were red hot and every radiator was cold.
It's tea time. DP has decided we need a new pump, went out and bought one, couldn't get the old one out, bashed it with a hammer, and now there's water everywhere.
Please please please just pay for a fucking plumber. I'll pay half, obviously.
Jeez.

It’s going to cost a lot more in the end. I’d a friend who’s husband did this, a lunatic at the bleeding rads and ended up fucking up the heating.
Is he a plumber by trade or just tight ?

No, there's plenty of water in the header tank. Or was - it's now being soaked up by towels and we've spent a frantic 10 minutes doing relays with buckets.
DP has bunged a wine cork up the pipe while he goes to Wickes for an olive (?????)
Gardai - tight. Usually pretty handy with house things, to be fair. Should have been an engineer. Lots of swearing.
