whose side of the bed?

are you wedded to a particular side of the bed? mine's against the wall, i have to climb out the end, dodge the loft roof and step around to escape exit. mr tt can roll in or out for at-will access (this was my bonus when kids still woke in the night).

if i have a more "active" night planned is it considerate or controlling to ask to swap sides (i.e he gets the wall, i get the roll-out option).

Mine is always the furthest away from the door. It’s so that the monsters and ghosts get DH first.

I'm always on the right hand side.

The dog long ago claimed the side nearest to the door, so I'm on the side nearest the window. Works for us.

georgialondon · 04/12/2019 23:34

I have my own side unless I'm pregnant. In which case I swap to the other side!

RollOnNextYear · 04/12/2019 23:36

Always closes to the door.. Ah home means I'm to left of Dh. So was our last place. If we stay in hotels and the door is the other side. It feels weird but I feel trapped of not near the door. Catch 22.

katewhinesalot · 04/12/2019 23:40

I have my side and I'm never going to swap. We automatically take our own sides in hotels. It's an unspoken rule.

The middle 😀

We've each had "our" sides since the beginning, I think... I happen to have the one closest to the door, but if there was ever a reasoning behind who got which side, I've long since forgotten. I probably wouldn't be thrilled at the prospect of switching sides back and forth, but if it meant we could both sleep better without one waking the other, I'd consider it.

I think it's considerate to offer to trade with him for the reasons you've mentioned. Unless you pressure him to swap, I don't see how that can be construed as controlling. If you feel like you need the open side of the bed, though, he should be considerate of your needs, too. For me, it would come down to who would be most bothered or have the most trouble sleeping if they didn't "get their way", as long as neither of us were just being difficult for the sake of it.

Single bed here so....

If I'm sharing I like the side closest to the door for toilet trips though. Not arsed which side it is.

weegiemum · 04/12/2019 23:52

I'm nearest the door - I'm disabled and need to use the toilet overnight with little warning!

In our old house, was the left. Is also in this house, because it's closest to the end suite and I don't trip over in the dark trying to get there!

I’m more interested in what you have got planned for an active night Shock
