No period after implant out

Hi
I had my Implant out nearly 3 months ago, and not had my period yet. I did not have a period while on the implant. I was on it for 5 years. I really want a baby, and just want a period so I know where I am. Any one had this issue. Booked doctors for 17th Dec - I hope they do blood tests.

Might be a silly question, but are you pregnant?

SquareAsABlock · 03/12/2019 20:40

I had a hell of a time with the implant, messed up my system for months. Bled continuously on it, then irregular for a few cycles after taking it out. I've just come off the Depo and that was 10 times worse - no period for 5 months then bled for 4 weeks straight Hmm.

Did the doctor say anything about the possibility of an irregular cycle after removal?

Natalie1234453452 · 03/12/2019 21:48

Took a test a couple of weeks ago and was negative. No the doctor said I should return to normal very quickly. I’m 28 and healthy

Following with interest as I had mine out a month ago, bled for a few days and worked out (if that was a period- which I dont think it was) that I'd be due a period a few days ago. Still hasn't arrived. We're also trying for a baby.

Charlottejade89 · 04/12/2019 10:09

Mine returned to normal pretty much straight away when I had it removed but the doctor told me it can take up to a year for your period to return

JBFletcher90 · 04/12/2019 13:02

Hi Natalie, I had a similar situation when my Mirena was removed beginning of July this year because I was TTC. I didn't have any periods for a few months and it really stressed me out. I had decided to book in to see a doctor for end of September to discuss my missing period. I'm not sure exactly when it happened, but I ended up conceiving sometime in September before my appointment and now I am 14 weeks along.
I know it sounds like easier said than done, but please try not to stress too much and don't let anyone deter you from seeking medical help!
Wishing you all the best xx

It's took me almost 1 year to get pregnant after I had the implant taken out. My periods had stopped also, my mood swings where crazy!
It can take a while for periods to even regulate again. Hopefully yours come back to normal sooner x

Thanks for your stories, it’s nice to know I’m not alone and it worked out okay for you. Congratulations JB - hopefully I will have a period soon and be pregnant next year.
My mood has also been all over the place, settled lately which is good.
I’m such a stressed person, work is very stressful and life in general but I’m trying to relax when I can. I will let you know what the doctor says

I had mine out over 2 years ago and I've had a grand total of 4 periods in that time.

Her0utdoors · 04/12/2019 19:48

So are you waiting for a period before you start ttc? I don't believe you have to if you don't want to. It's more convenient for the midwives etc if you do, so the have a date to pin you due date on. But if you want a baby up ya, why not crack on?

Natalie1234453452 · 04/12/2019 20:41

No we are not waiting- definitely trying!

Fingers crossed for you then Crown Smile

Hi all. I Went to the doctors today, they said it can take 6 to 12 months to get your period! Something I did not sign up to when I went in the implant. They hope it will return sooner. The doctor is going to take some bloods to see hormone levels so that’s something.

In a very similar boat with the patch. Took last one off in Sept and no period yet. Would just be nice to know what's going on really

FoxFriend · 17/12/2019 20:55

Mine returned to normal straight away, but a good friend of mine is still waiting 8 months later (which makes it tough when ttc!) I’ve heard it can really vary and it’s put me off getting another put in. I recently had a baby, but we only want a 2 year gap so I think I’ll be making a GP appointment to talk about other options.

I had the implant removed 10 months ago back in September, as wanting to try for a baby.
I had had anxiety and had struggled to eat for a couple of months. So prob not the best idea to add a load of hormones to the mix!
Sadly once it was removed My period did not come back , every month I would wait and hope, but nothing, no positive tests either!
I have googled hundred times why no period after implant out! And it just says it can take time a couple of months.
I had been to the doctors who put me forward to have a ultrasound as after blood tests my hormone levels were not right.
Due to COVID 19 it was postponed until today! I went this afternoon and was told I did not have PCOS and my Overys looked normal!

Then as if magic I get home and I have started (very light, and more brown then a red) but yes a period!! After 5 years! ( I was on my second implants and never had a period on them)
I’m so happy!!! I know I have a long way to go but my body is trying, my body works!!
I had sore nipples for 2.5 weeks so I hoped things were going the right way. And they have. I feel so lucky. I am a stress head so now need to keep calm and carry on!

@Natalie1234453452
Just wanted to say I'm really pleased for you after all that waiting you had to go through Smile - the waiting and uncertainty is so hard .
I hope you conceive soon now you know your cycles are hopefully back on track Smile

Good to hear there's some progress, my friend used black cohosh to bring her periods back after years on the pill and no return after stopping, it worked within a fortnight and she didn't need it again, this was some time ago though and obviously you should discuss new supplements with a professional specially if you're ttc.

Miffy987 · 01/12/2020 09:34

I'm in the same boat. Only been TTC for 3 months but I had an implant for 12 years. Dr said I will be back to normal in the first cycle but I am definitely not. No flow for the last 2 months which is weird because I did have them with the implant. I really hope things get back to normal soon.

It makes me feel a bit better knowing that others have been through the same

MaryLennoxsScowl · 01/12/2020 09:55

Fascinated by the black cohosh idea - isn’t that a poison? How does it work?
I had problems with coming off the pill after years; I had very erratic stop-start periods for nearly 6 months with painful boobs the whole time and in the end went back on it as it was driving me mad. I wasn’t TTC though.
