Advent calendar dilemma!

BloodyCats · 30/11/2019 18:07

Ok this is very, very first world problemy but I would appreciate some help in deciding.

Dh bought me a very fancy advent calendar for my birthday which falls in the middle of December, he would like me to wait till my birthday to open it all. I have used all my willpower not ripping through it already and would like to start with the first door tomorrow.

Who will win the fight?
Yabu = save it for your birthday you greedy mare
Yanbu = start tomorrow, open it all tomorrow!

Erm no, it's an advent calendar, you start it on the 1st December. Tell him not to be so tight and get you a birthday present as well!

PristineCondition · 30/11/2019 18:09

What fuckinG madness!

Open a door a day like the advent law demands!!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 30/11/2019 18:09

Advent calendars are for opening a day at time in December. Waiting to halfway through the month is odd

CheshireDing · 30/11/2019 18:10

Tell him to get you a birthday present.

This is an advent calendar, so you open door 1 tomorrow

End of ! 😀

DisplayPurposesOnly · 30/11/2019 18:10

He bought you an advent calendar. What's the bloody point if you can't open one a day? It's still a birthday present.

bridgetreilly · 30/11/2019 18:10

That is a very odd birthday present! If he wanted you to open it all at once, he shouldn't have told you what it was and should have just wrapped it up to give you on your birthday. But you can't sit and look at an unstarted advent calendar for another two weeks!

BloodyCats · 30/11/2019 18:11

Where has my vote gone?!

He wants me to wait as it’s a birthday gift and I won’t have much else to open on my birthday otherwise. I think this could easily be solved by buying me more gifts Wink

It's an advent calendar, not a birthday present! Don't care how fancy it is.

What a tight arse. Would he buy you an easter egg for your birthday if it fell in lent?

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 30/11/2019 18:12

Advent calendar. Tell him the clue is in the name. He’s being tight.

MirandaWest · 30/11/2019 18:15

Start opening it tomorrow. Was he thinking you’d open all the doors on your birthday?

FelicityBeedle · 30/11/2019 18:16

Some advent calendars cost £100s! Of course they’re fine to give as a gift, not tight at all.

OP you should open it day at a time from tomorrow, not open all at once

Nope you should definitely start opening tomorrow! I’ve dropped my mums Christmas present (Clinique one) off this morning so she has it for morning. You will have a present and enjoyment everyday this way rather than loads at once! Which one is it?

Snuffkindle · 30/11/2019 18:20

What? Well what does he want you to do? Open 15 at once??? What is he thinking???!!!!

Waveysnail · 30/11/2019 18:23

It's an advent calendar - whole point is opening it each day Hmm. He should have brought you a set of something instead if he wanted u to wait

bridgetreilly · 30/11/2019 18:23

Of course they’re fine to give as a gift, not tight at all.

I'm not saying it's tight! Or that they shouldn't be a gift.

I am saying it's a weird thing to give as a birthday gift.

Kirigiri · 30/11/2019 18:28

Is it the Nespresso one? So excited to start that one, wouldn’t be waiting until birthday

girlofthenorth · 30/11/2019 18:28

An advent calendar is an advent calendar and should be treated as so ! He needs to buy another gift !!!!Grin

Pinkblueberry · 30/11/2019 18:30

Does he know what an advent calendar is? And how it works?

ZenNudist · 30/11/2019 18:38

Im not voting because both your options are wrong. Just open one a day in December.

What's the advent calendar?

BloodyCats · 30/11/2019 18:41

It’s a liberty one so definitely not tight. We have a lot of birthdays to buy for in December and I’ve wanted it for ages but can’t justify it as a stand alone present to myself.

Right, I win. I’m starting tomorrow. Thanks MN Grin

I was coming to say start tomorrow too :) Glad you've decided to, enjoy its contents.

Cantchooseaname · 30/11/2019 19:08

Could you use the argument that the surprise might be spoiled by finding out what is in it if you don’t ‘keep up’.

73Sunglasslover · 30/11/2019 19:11

It's a great gift if you start opening it tomorrow. Otherwise it's a shite gift.

Jupiters · 30/11/2019 21:13

It's an advent calendar, start opening the doors on the 1st of December. If you have to wait until mid-december it's no longer an advent calendar!
