Sorry 16 minutes walk and 7 minutes by car. But still not far.

Trottersindependenttraders · 30/11/2019 07:48

As Apollo says you can walk straight down market street and then turn right and m&s - then you’ll see Selfridges at the end in the right. Or get a tram at Piccadilly, it will be the Bury tram you need and get off at Exchange Square - Selfridges right there.

loverofpants · 30/11/2019 07:49

It is very straightforward- come out of the train station and walk straight down Market St past Debenhams and under the food court then turn right. You’ll see it after M&S. Although Slighter longer than the route On the map above, thats the easier way if you’re not feeling confident.

Moltenpink · 30/11/2019 07:49

It’s about a 20 min walk if you walk through the shopping centre (market st way) which is probably easier, as the back street northern q way can be a bit disorientating.

Passmeabrew · 30/11/2019 07:50

You can and it's fairly easy to get there but I think victoria station is closer if you can get off there?
If not just go out the front of the station and literally follow the masses! You go right, keep walking and you go past some garden area with a big Primark and other shops, keep going past all that and as you go past the arndale you go under a sort of bridge, go through that and it's basically on your right.

Disclaimer: I'm rubbish at directions and although have been many many times, it's been a while!

Hoppinggreen · 30/11/2019 07:50

It’s really easy, basically walk down to Deansgate and turn right
I wouldn’t bother with a tram

ThursdayLastWeek · 30/11/2019 07:51

Download the citymapper app.

DeathStare · 30/11/2019 07:54

When you get to Piccadilly get on the metrolink - get any service that will take you to Victoria (It will either say "Bury" or "Victoria"). It'll be about 5 minutes on the metrolink and Victoria is right by Selfridges. The Bury service doesn't stop at Exchange Square - no service from Piccadilly does

Lostinthedesert · 30/11/2019 07:56

You don’t even need to walk. There are free shuttle buses outside Piccadilly Station that will take you there. You need the one marked with a number 1. Ask the driver for help when you get on if you don’t know where to get off.

countdowntochristmas · 30/11/2019 07:56

It's about 20 min walk from Piccadilly train station but very busy this time of year . There are trams from Piccadilly station so if you get the tram to bury which is 3 stops I think and get off at exchange square it's 5 min walk . See manchester metrolink

ThatUserNamesTakenTryAnother · 30/11/2019 07:58

Can't you Google maps it?

BabyMoonPie · 30/11/2019 07:59

You can't get a direct tram from Picadilly to Exchange Square. There's a free bus that runs from outside Picadilly that you could get

BabyMoonPie · 30/11/2019 08:00

Sorry for the cross posts - that was slow to post

Peccary · 30/11/2019 08:00

If your train ticket says Manchester Central zone you can use it on city centre trams too.

DeathStare · 30/11/2019 08:01

get off at exchange square it's 5 min walk

There are no metrolink services from Piccadilly to Exchange Square. Exchange square is a tiny stop and only used by the Didsbury to Rochdale/Oldham line which doesn't go through Piccadilly.

The nearest metrolink stop Selfridges that does connect to Piccadilly is Victoria.

SheDoneAlreadyDoneHadHerses · 30/11/2019 08:06

As a pp has said, the Bury tram doesn't go to Exchange Square, but to Victoria Station (which is the next stop down). Get the Bury tram, get off at Viccy, walk out of the station and turn right. Luckily this time of year it's full of Xmas Market goers so you won't miss it.
If you want to walk, come out of the front of Piccadilly Station and turn right and keep walking straight (you'll pass Piccadilly Gardens on your left, then Debenhams on your right) till you see M&S then turn right.
We're a really helpful bunch too, so if you're unsure just ask!

SheDoneAlreadyDoneHadHerses · 30/11/2019 08:09

That should say turn right out of Viccy if you leave by the exit up near the M&S shop. If you leave by the exit next to Java, it's left, walk up towards the main road, then right

CatsForLife · 30/11/2019 08:13

It’s a straightforward walk through a pedestrianised area. By the time you’ve got on a tram, you could be halfway there. The same with bus as it’s not massively direct due to pedestrianisation. Just come out of the station, and walk down Market Street. Get to the bottom (Boots on your left, M and S in front) and turn right. You’re there. Selfridges and M and S are back to back.

CheshireDing · 30/11/2019 08:14

Does your train not stop at Victoria station ? That would be less of a walk if so

PrincessHoneysuckle · 30/11/2019 08:33

It's just a ticket to piccadilly no Victoria.I did google it beforehand there were various instructions on how to get there so I thought I'd ask here.Cheers I'm sure I'll be fine.

I think you may be going through Huddersfield?
If so check the trains, there was a lot of disruption yesterday

Ginfordinner · 30/11/2019 09:36

Good luck with the train journey. Trans Pennine trains are always packed and never have enough carriages. I travelled from Sheffield to Manchester last week on a two coach train. The station staff had to stop people from getting on the train as it was already too full. My friend travelled from Leeds and had the same experience. My return journey was just as bad. I have also travelled from Huddersfield and had to stand all the way. There just isn't enough rolling stock for trans Pennine trains. Travelling on them is just like being on the London underground in the rush hour in my experience.

I'm so glad that DD decided not to go to university in Manchester. We are only just over 30 miles away, but it is bloody difficult to get to from where we live due to horrendous traffic or awful public transport.

danmthatonestakentryanotheer · 30/11/2019 10:13

Go out of Piccadilly, turn right walk straight on until you get to the right hand turn just before M&S keep going and Selfridges will be on your left hand side. Depending how mobile you are and how busy it is (Christmas markets are on at the moment) it should take between 15-20 minutes.

countdowntochristmas · 30/11/2019 10:17

Sorry I'm thinking shudehill not exchange square Confused its 5 min walk to selfridges .
