To think that supermarkets should have clean loos

Popped into Waitrose. Went to use the loo and it was disgusting! The floor was soaking wet, the toilet bowls were encrusted with poo, there was no soap. Grim.

I politely mentioned it to a passing store assistant and she looked at me like I had two heads. “Well it’s not MY job to clean the toilet.”

“I understand that but perhaps you could tell your manager so they can organise for the loos to be cleaned?”

“Well the cleaner only comes in first thing and at night so there’s nothing I can do.”

Am I expecting too much? In no way was I asking HER to clean..but surely they should know so that it can be sorted?

Confused

IMO everywhere should have clean loos.

Ken1976 · 27/11/2019 18:11

The supermarket toilets near me have a chart on the wall and are inspected hourly by a domestic. They are clean

ilovesooty · 27/11/2019 18:13

I think it might have been more productive to have reported your concerns to the customer service desk.

Biggobyboo · 27/11/2019 18:14

There wasn’t anybody at the customer service desk.

Completely reasonable to point it out. She should have just said she would pass the message on.

Peoplearemiserable · 27/11/2019 18:17

I think all public loos should be cleaned very regularly and to a decent standard. The amount of times I go into our nearest city and most shops, bars, restaurants are disgusting. Either filthy or out of soap or toilet paper. It makes you wonder what the kitchen is like!

ELM8 · 27/11/2019 18:18

Agree. My local Waitrose is the same - the toilets are ALWAYS grim. Currently pregnant so using them more than I usually would and it's always a horrible experience.

Sparklingbrook · 27/11/2019 18:22

Probably best to ask for a Manager and speak to them directly if this happens again. Toilets should be clean and monitored.

britnay · 27/11/2019 18:38

Write to head office. I'm sure that the staff would prefer having cleaners in all day, but I imagine budget cuts have put a stop to it. Big companies tend to only do things if customers complain, they won't bother about staff complaints.

which1 · 27/11/2019 18:46

I learnt a while ago to check for soap and loo roll before using the loo. I carry nose tissues anyway in my bag so will use those as a back up and have been known to carry one of those little hotel soaps around. Otherwise I have to hold it.

Ihatesundays · 27/11/2019 18:54

Take a picture and tweet it to them.

lifeonaloop · 27/11/2019 18:59

We have customers toilets where I work. They get checked on the hour every hour.

Just last week within minutes of them being cleaned we had a complaint because someone had shit all over the toilet seat and just left it.

The public need to stop being vile.

Biggobyboo · 27/11/2019 19:00

I agree, the public are disgusting! I feel sorry for the cleaners.

What I want to know is why it's necessary for them to get that dirty in the first place. Poo down the sides of the basin is unpleasant but I can see how that might be unavoidable. There's no need for wee/blood on the seat, though and who throws the paper and water on the floor and smears soap everywhere?

It's like litter droppers. Why do people need to make things grim? Do they like living in a shithole?

TheNestedIf · 27/11/2019 19:17

Cross post but totally agree with lifeonaloop.

recklessruby · 27/11/2019 20:38

It ll be a cleaning company that s responsible for the loos, who Waitrose employ. Maybe they have cut back on hours but I used to work cleaning Waitrose and we did early mornings and lunchtime.
They WERE a state by 1pm.
One day the first thing I heard over the tannoy when I went in for the lunchtime shift was a lady asking "Please could Ruby clean the loos first today? "

Schwibble · 27/11/2019 20:43

Morrisons in Rotherham, near the motorway, has the filthiest loos I've ever seen, often blocked too. Hate to think what the kitchens must be like.

PsuedoSatisfactionBaby · 27/11/2019 20:51

I’m quite envious your Waitrose has customer loos! My nearest does not. It’s a pretty big one too.

ShadowSpiral · 27/11/2019 20:56

I’ve never been in a Waitrose toilet, but the toilets in my local supermarkets are usually clean, they have those charts on the wall for ticking off hourly inspections.

Thisnamechanger · 27/11/2019 21:00

They should but it's quite hard to keep loos clean every moment of the day. The general public are garbage.

woodhill · 27/11/2019 21:03

Dirty people using the toilets unfortunately

Ugzbugz · 27/11/2019 21:05

Toilets are disgusting because people are revolting.

HeIenaDove · 27/11/2019 21:11

Supermarkets should have loos full stop................yes Lidl im looking a you.

HeIenaDove · 27/11/2019 21:12

Ugh Missed the first line of your OP

Sparklingbrook · 28/11/2019 07:26

Both Lidls nearest to me have loos. Not visited them though. I would have to be vv desperate to use a supermarket loo.
