GP confusion

Hi

So sorry if this is the wrong place just dont know who to turn to without worrying partner / relatives etc. Please bear with me and if anyone has any medical advice I'd appreciate an input :) not scaring myself just trying to solve mystery!

Told I had IBS about 15 years ago due to inconsistent bowel movements (either constipated or go 16 times in a day), blood tests at time to check for allergies and all fine. No cure so just got on with life. Tried various diets and nothing helped (including fOdmap and so much peppermint tea).

Went to see GP in Sept as it impacts life, have to leave meetings, adapt travel plans and piled weight on around my tummy. When I say weight, it is not fat or rolls but a solid pregnancy bump look. It starts around my knicker line and is a well defined solid bump. When flat I am a size 10 but when tummy swells I have to wear size 16 to 18 trousers or dresses to fit over the bump. It has really impacted my confidence over the years and whilst my partner is great it sometimes makes intercourse difficult as there is a huge bump in the way! I have been shouted at and had my hair pulled by some random woman in a bar as she thought I was drinking wine whilst pregnant.... that's how my body shape looks. I'm due to get married soon and petrified as there is no rhyme or reason why my tummy swells. Scared I will need two dresses as I dont know my shape on the say.

Anyway spoke to my GP who wasnt interested. Told it was IBS and there is no cure but he will do some tests just to see. Had to do a poo sample, ultrasound and bloods.

I kept calling for my results and by second week in October they are all back and all fine. Receptionist said if issue still persists I can make another appointment. I didnt at the time as I felt I had wasted GPs time and IBS is just part of life I need to get on with it.

Just had a (felt frantic) phone call from GP surgery saying I need my bloods redoing. I explained that I had been given a print out of the results and they were all fine. Asked to come in tomorrow to re do bloods and I said I couldn't as I was away with work til Thurs evening.

I asked twice if they had the wrong person and told no, confirmed my details etc. I explained that I had had three tests and were told they were all fine. She asked what I had done so explained a sample and ultrasound, said she will give me results now. I can hear here put hand over phone piece and say to someone else something about fibro and ultrasound then came back on line and said no she is making an appt for someone to tell me the results as she cant, she is cancelling my blood test and someone will come in to my appt to take it.

Absolutely baffled. I feel like they must be calling the wrong person back in as I had my results early Oct and was told they are all fine. Tried explaining this to the receptionist and she was quite brisk and said she cant talk to me and if I cant get home earlier then I need to wait til friday.

If it was an emergency I'd be told there and then right? I just feel a bit dazed, not worried but wondering what it could be and why the sudden urgency after being told everything was fine nearly 6 weeks ago?!

Any support or chit chat would be appreciated as I'm currently staring at my cold cup of tea confused!

My first thought reading this was a fibroid maybe? But that's a wild guess from a non medical person. If it were really urgent is imagine they'd get a GP to phone you or explain you needed to come home now. But that's just my take on it. That is really shit though OP. I'm really sorry you're dealing with this stress and have everything crossed it's not bad news. Potentially they have found something that can be treated so you don't have to worry about your tummy bloating so much anymore? I really hope that's the case for you. Sending hugs

Thank you, I'm not too worried about the medical aspect as I feel quite well in myself. Just the sudden change from it's ok to come in. If it was an emergency I imagine the GP would be on the phone too, just feel they might have the wrong person and that I'm going to be poked and prodded by mistake. Thank you :)

How are you @Ditzandspritz. Have you heard anything more from the doctors? Do let us know how you go on, I have been thinking of you.

Hi
Sorry I name changed as someone pointed out to me that ditz and spritz had something to do with piddling puppies!

I rang the surgery as I felt convinced they had made an error after being told that all was ok etc. Apprently something has shown up on the scan so just waiting for my appt now :) I am home this evening too so work has kept me busy the last fee days :)

InnisandGunn · 02/12/2019 13:29

Hi @Bubbletrouble007 how did you get on? Was just thinking about you after a busy weekend!

Bubbletrouble007 · 02/12/2019 14:11

Hi Innis

Thank you for your message. I went back and it looks as though I have quite a bit of scarring on my liver. Had some more bloods taken and just waiting for the results and to see a specialist. Feeling a bit numb at the moment as I always presumed my liver would be fine as I dont drink, but will just wait and see. It wasnt what I went for, so I guess I am lucky it showed up. Thank you for your support

Bubble I have had the same thing recently - I was told I have damage to my liver and some liver blood tests came back raised.

I have never drunk alcohol at all (!) and I am generally healthy and in my mid thirties so I have no idea what is causing it!

Also found at an appointment for so ethical f else!

Bubbletrouble007 · 02/12/2019 18:09

Hi makinganewthinghappen

Thanks for your response! It is quite a shock to be honest, can I ask what course of action was taken after you were told? I just feel in limbo at the moment waiting for results.

Hope it's all going well

Makinganewthinghappen · 02/12/2019 18:22

Bubble - my gp said they will repeat the tests in 8 weeks - scan and blood tests to see if it’s getting worse other than that nothing !
