To not understand iwatches?! Help

annie987 · 26/11/2019 10:29

I want to get my husband an iwatch for Christmas (combined 40th) bit I don’t understand what I need to buy and everything I read confuses me more!
He has an iPhone 8 on an unlimited contract with O2.
If I buy a cellular iwatch does he need a second airtime plan for the watch? Pay extra on the plan he has Or does it just use his current plan? Or something completely different?

I’m confused! Thanks

Pop into the apple site and have a chat with them as they can go through stand alone and cellular options

Mine is cellular, but I haven’t activated the use it away from the phone option.

But it’s waterproof which is why I got 3rd gen not second.

The cellular functionality might not be that useful if he's got an iPhone - most of us have our phones on us at all times and it alerts you to calls/texts/emails/notifications (depending on your preferences) anyway.

Why is it bad form?

Its frikking annoying when someone posts about them / there child and people offer advice and post asking if they are ok and then they dont even go back to the thread to update....

It’s always been bad form on MN to reference the OPs past posts. That post has nothing to do with this one. And nobody who posts on here owes their audience an update.

"Owes there audience an update"

But its rude not to, people are asking / worrying.

Why wouldnt the OP update, only takes 30 seconds.
People have taken the time to help out / give advice then left wondering of the child is ok.

Not like any privacy has been broken, very easy for previous threads to be searched, people do it all the time

No need to derail the thread guys. Comment reported so lets move on.

OP, as previous commenters have mentioned, go into store if at all possible. And keep the receipt, if you get one with too much or not enough functionality he can take it back for an exchange. It's the thought that counts so I'm sure if he'd have preferred a slightly different model you can both agree that it's no slight on the one you've picked.

Will he ever need to use the watch as a phone without the phone? Ie will he leave the phone at home and go for a run?

I think if you have the phone and are rarely separated from that, then GPS is enough. If you go cellular you'll need a SIM for the watch and a contract.

I've got a waterproof watch, GPS only.
