Dog poo down my street every day - any solutions?

Almost every morning I come out and there is at least one lot of dog poo that hasn't been picked up. At the end of our block is a huge primary school with children clearly standing in it every day.

Our local councillor lives on our block and is really helpful. I'd like to go to him with a solution rather than a problem - any ideas?

Put on a pair of gloves and pick it up?

Mushypeasandchipstogo · 26/11/2019 09:52

Had the same on our road. Somebody put up several large posters saying that offenders would be named and shamed and put on Facebook. It worked!

lanthanum · 26/11/2019 09:57

Our parish council got some spray cans of biodegradable marker paint in bright colours. Several people have these and spray round dog poo on the routes to the primary school, which at least reduces the number who tread in it. Some posters and some Facebook messages, but stopped short of naming and shaming.

Any chance of setting up CCTV from any of the nearby houses? We have a problem with someone letting their dog poo outside our door so I've invested £30 in a camera. It's inside but effectively records any movement (no pun intended) outside.

I will report to the council as there's no street lighting and I've stood in it several times when it's dark.

Dog walkers are creatures of habit, usually early morning or evening, keep an eye out at these times, photo then Facebook.

FilamentBabe · 26/11/2019 10:21

Watching as would love a solution myself. My village is shocking for this and its so hard navigating a pushchair and 2 children around it all.

Ghostontoast · 26/11/2019 10:24

It will probably be poo from the same dog that poos in the same few spots. The size of the poo will give you an idea of the size of the dog.

Severa · 26/11/2019 10:24

It's everywhere, it seems like our whole island is covered in dog poo. It's so infuriating when you've got kids and you're constantly dodging dog eggs with the pram or trying to make sure your toddler doesn't tread in it. Such selfishness from the owners, it's disgusting.
I've never seen anyone not pick up after their dog but I swear I would pick that poo up with my bare hands and rub it in their face/hair, all over them — I would do that to myself to teach them a lesson. I'm dead serious.

Imabitofanexpertatpeppa · 26/11/2019 10:25

Same on our road. There are some very selfish, lazy and gross people about.

@Greatorb Why on earth should one pick up someone else’s dog poo?! The culprits need to be named and shamed. It’s probably only a tiny minority. The council need to get serious about fining people.

HerrenaHarridan · 26/11/2019 10:32

Round here they got the primary school kids out with cans of spray paint and survey sheets for different streets.

The photos were all over the local fb pages (with permissions of course) as were the stats the kids gathered.

The difference was astounding!

SoupDragon · 26/11/2019 10:33

Put on a pair of gloves and pick it up

That won't stop the dog owner not picking up after their dog.

Bentoforthehorde · 26/11/2019 10:40

On the 10 minute walk (up to 45 if the toddler is walking) today I am navigating up to 10 separate dog poos, some that go right across the path. I have 4 children and have to navigate it 6 times because one is in nursery for afternoons. It gives me the absolute rage.
As soon as the mornings and evenings get dark selfish picks on my area just let their dogs crap wherever they like.
I've had to fit bicycle lights to the pushchair like headlights to avoid it in the dark.

AllYouGoodGoodPeople · 26/11/2019 11:12

Our council has a report dog crap web page - I'm sure it's called something better than that though Grin There was someone who used to deliberately walk their massive (by the size of the shits) dogs all around the close the DC's school is on. The school carpets must have been covered in it. It was gross and it happened again and again - only started when the school expanded. Anyway a bunch of parents started using the report dog shit page everytime it happened and it stopped very quickly after that.

Marellaspirit · 26/11/2019 11:45

Someone failed to pick up a dog poo right next to the passenger side of my car the other day...what made it worse was, one of the neighbours who clearly thought they were helping has poured soapy water over it which partly dissolved it but then just spread the mess further!

Dreamersandwishers · 26/11/2019 11:58

Good ideas about photos and paint. I had a repeat offender by my gate - never found the culprit but after binning it, I washed the area with strong bleach and that stopped it. ( dogs poo where they smell poo )

RhinoskinhaveI · 26/11/2019 12:01

Sounds like the Facebook name and shame is a good way to go?

In our village we have poo watch. A very committed resident had cctv installed and puts on fbook "you have until 5pm to come and pick it up, or your pic will go up on fbook and I will post the poo through your door." Worked a treat!

waterrat · 26/11/2019 12:18

I have a solution that worked ! We had it bad up our street - got some kids to make posters asking people to stop and we out them on lampposts. It stopped

floffel · 26/11/2019 12:22

This worked for us OP - very effective

I feel your pain OP. We live in a village that has e same problem. Some asshole also let’s their dog shit and leaves it right by the school gates. It’s infuriating. Many of us have contacted the council. They’ve had people out ‘inspecting’ putting posters up about picking it up and putting more bins out. I think it may have got a little better here. A lady was going around picking it up by the school everyday day.
