To ask about Catholic priests

Posting here for traffic.

Anyone know how I can go about getting the name of a priest who worked at a catholic church/school in the 80's? Disappeared under a bit of a cloud some years later.

Not coming up with anything helpful on google.

Write to the diocese?

I’d presume the parish that you know he worked at would have information or the diocese (an area a bishops oversees and is made up of multiple parishes) might.

Although I doubt they’ll give you a name of you don’t have one already. They may confirm if a priest whose name you already know worked there at that time.

The parish priest of the area the school is in would most likely know the names of priest's working in the area historically or the office of the Bishop.

Possibly local elderly people might know. Or a local paper.
Good luck.

Try local Facebook groups, a chatty post about who was the local priest who came to visit the school might prompt some memories from some people

Thanks for the replies. I think I was hoping for some nice handy list I could access from the safe distance of the internet. Will think about contacting the diocese if I am feeling brave.

You might be better off with a printed document, like a phone book. Diocesan directory sort of thing?
Local library might have, or other parishes.
