To ask where the Scotch tape strips have gone?!

The ones that go in the little dispenser which you can slip on your wrist? These are my saviour for Christmas wrapping! I can’t find any anywhere! On Amazon they want £20 for a 3 pack Shock Are they casualties of the glue shortage that’s affected HRT patches? Will I have to resort to normal sticky tape?! Biting off little strips and sticking them all over the table. Surely not?!!

I think they stopped making these a while ago. Such a shame as they were utterly brilliant. What a stupid decision.

NeverTrustASmilingCat · 23/11/2019 16:50

I find that a tape dispenser makes it much easier, you just need one hand to use them.

Oneborneverydecade · 23/11/2019 16:56

I had no idea they'd stopped making them! Although I did buy a large number at reduced price some time ago so should've questioned it. I'm gutted. I wonder why, they were fab

footballmum · 23/11/2019 17:08

Oh that’s so sad. I feel a little bereft Sad Yes, @NeverTrustASmilingCat, I shall have to invest. Feels a little like going back in time though!!

I'm sure I've seen sellotape ones

Ohhshiney · 23/11/2019 17:22

I’m sure I saw some at the till in my local matalan

Rainycloudyday · 23/11/2019 17:39

They’re pretty horrible environmentally. Probably demand has plummeted because people are more conscious of these issues. Good!

dementedpixie · 23/11/2019 17:41

Sellotape has a version currently. I've seen them in Tesco

MadisonAvenue · 23/11/2019 17:41

Oh no!! These make wrapping presents almost bearable!

Howaboutnoooo · 23/11/2019 17:43

I’ve just found a strip in my cupboard! But yes they aren’t anywhere to be found in the usual shops. I got myself a big tape dispenser last Christmas, but have also been making the effort for re use ribbon and string to tie up gifts where I can- it’s not always practical though.

footballmum · 23/11/2019 17:47

@dementedpixie aren’t the scotch tape and sellotape ones the same thing? Off to google...

Findumdum1 · 23/11/2019 17:47

what's the difference environmentally between a plastic roll with tape around it or a plastic strip with tapes strips precut on top of it? They should replace the plastic bit with cardboard in both cases but I don't see everyone giving up using sellotape.

dementedpixie · 23/11/2019 17:49

No, sellotape and scotch tape are different brands

MadisonAvenue · 23/11/2019 17:53

Allergic Yes, that that's the one mentioned in the original post. The refill packs look pretty expensive on Amazon though, obviously due to being discontinued.

footballmum · 23/11/2019 17:53

@AllergicToAMop yes that’s the stuff but I’ve got a couple of dispensers. You used to just be able to buy packs of the strip inserts but those seem to have disappeared.

Just found the one you’re referring to demented That looks like a viable alternative. Thank you Smile

I've added the Sellotape one to my Tesco order for next week.

MuddlingThrough1724 · 23/11/2019 17:56

You need one of these - one side is a normal tape dispenser, the other cuts the roll.un to handy little strips for you.

Tape Dispenser - TWO Cutting Options - PURPLE www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00C2QLBKS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Ckx2Db3GR7BPH?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Clymene · 23/11/2019 17:57

They've discontinued them I think. Which is a shame because they're much better than the sellotape on a roll ones.

itsgettingweird · 23/11/2019 18:30

I searched town for these today.

Loads of new dispensers and the re fills.

I refused to buy out of principle - I probably won't be able to get the refills soon!

Thought we were meant to be cutting back on plastic?,

footballmum · 23/11/2019 18:58

@MuddlingThrough1724 that is one tape cutting bad boy!

MuddlingThrough1724 · 23/11/2019 19:06

In my line of work I use lots of bits of tape for packaging and it is excellent @footballmum ! My husband who usually has no interest at all in this type of thing kept pinching it for present wrapping so we now have two! Worth every single penny!

CheeseFace · 23/11/2019 19:42

Noooooooooooooooooooo they are my Christmas saviour, cannot believe they've stopped making them sulks dramatically

Wallywobbles · 23/11/2019 20:05
