First world problem:

Put the cake in the oven 15 minutes ago & have just realised I have forgotten to mix in the walnuts.

Is this going to adversely affect the outcome of the cake?

Depends how much you like walnuts.

haverhill · 22/11/2019 16:55

It’ll just be a nut-free cake; bet it still tastes great.

Neolara · 22/11/2019 16:56

I never put walnuts in my Xmas cake. But if you live them, why don't you artfully arrange some on the top of your cake now. Unless you've covered it with string / greaseproof paper / other stuff while cooking, in which case you are doomed to walnutless cake forever.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 22/11/2019 16:57

I've made a nut-free cake before and it was fine - plenty of other ingredients in there. Cake

Annasgirl · 22/11/2019 16:59

I never put walnuts in mine. I second what Neolara said - put them on afterwards if you love the taste.

EdinaMonsoon · 22/11/2019 17:22

Thanks everyone! Flowers. I’m happy with it being a nut-free cake. I was just panicking about whether it would affect the bake itself as my understanding is that the nuts add moisture? Anyway, it has a shed load of ground almonds & brandy in there so that should be all good!

Gosh, I can't stand walnuts so, in my opinion, you have saved the cake Grin

WombleishOfTheThighs · 22/11/2019 17:31

I don't think walnuts are integral to a Christmas cake. I don't add any nuts to mine, as DH is a picky sod doesn't like nuts. Or glacé cherries like I said, picky.

WombleishOfTheThighs · 22/11/2019 17:36

Actually, I've made 3 cakes this year. For the last one I forgot to add the eggs before the fruit and I don't think it made an iota difference. I find fruit cakes in general are pretty easy-going. I've added and omitted lots of extra ingredients to recipes and it always turns out fine.

WombleishOfTheThighs · 22/11/2019 17:36

Oops, I mean I did add the eggs, just not at the right time Grin

@Jinglebulls 😂
