Hiding from the cleaner?

Longfacenow · 18/11/2019 09:57

I am recovering from a broken collarbone but am now out of the sling. Have the house to myself before work this afternoon. A new cleaner has started so don't want to leave them home alone as don't know them.

Currently hiding in my bedroom doing admin. Should I just go downstairs and do it in plain sight and comfort (coffee, sofa, radio)?

Oh the collarbone thing is why I am doing work from home a lot. Probably irrelevant!

I hide from the cleaner by going out. I’ve never met her! I wouldn’t know what to do if I was in the house while she was cleaning!! I guess you’d be in her way downstairs?

I do it in plain sight. It feels incredibly awkward!

I used to work nights when I lived with my DM, who had a cleaner. She used to tiptoe around upstairs and push lovely little notes under my door saying she hoped she hadn’t woken me Smile

Haha yes exactly! I feel so silly up here but also thinking it'll be awkward downstairs sitting on my laptop!

Cleaner here. All you need to do is say 'Knock on the door when you're ready to clean in here'. And then you can go downstairs when she's finished there.
No need to hide, but best to not walk over just cleaned/mopped floors when the cleaner is still doing them.

One client used to ask me not to do the living room one week, and she'd sit there for the whole three hour clean watching TV.

Indiebear · 18/11/2019 10:32

I think staying in your room is fine and maybe pop downstairs to make a cuppa and offer the cleaner one too. I really dont like clients hovering around when I have wires and etc all over the house. I usually bin them off

Indiebear · 18/11/2019 10:33

Lol ten sixty six that would annoy me Grin

Cleaner here. I agree with tensixtysix just say to them when you're done with the lounge let me know & i'll do my work in there so the upstairs is free for you.
I personally don't mind if the people are there or not. I dont like them being in the way though!

chrisski33 · 18/11/2019 17:22

Your house so should be ok to be present as long as you don't be overbearing and walk over freshly mopped floors. Im not in when my cleaner comes as I'm at work. If I'm off I go out but if I needed to be in I would.

Thanks all. I ventured down and offered her a drink then did some work at the kitchen table. All was well!
