Is this chicken pox?

Posting for traffic!
Ds is 20months, has a temp and cold symptoms. Spots appeared on his stomach yesterday.
Another boy at nursery has them currently and my son has been in the same room as him.
They are just on his stomach- no where else.
Just checking they are chicken pox as it seems to be quite mild (although realise that could change as the spots do!) I was expect spots to be everywhere and itchy but they don't seem to be bothering him.
Thanks in advance

Chicken pox can come up over a few days. They also turn into fluid filled blisters. Cant really tell if they are from your picture

At the moment, this looks like a viral rash. Chicken pox are normally very clearly defined spots and will form a blister on the top after a couple of days. Only one way to find out for sure and that is time. Hope your DS feels better soon.

fedup21 · 18/11/2019 07:35

That doesn’t look like them to me-they are quite distinctive and fluid filled. They appear quickly over a few hours and each spot changes

See what thy look like in 3/4 hours.

It doesn't look like chicken pox. If they started appearing yesterday I would expect them to be more defined by now.

Im not in the UK, but it seems to be scarlet fever season here. Could it be that?

notfromstepford · 18/11/2019 11:52

My DS had similar over the summer. I thought it was chickenpox to begin with but after a few hours or so, nothing was blistering. Turned out was a viral rash. The other give away was that it was only on his torso, non of his head/face or below mid-thigh or very upper arms.

Thanks everyone. It's hard to know. The spots haven't changed since Saturday. Some did appear on his thighs but that's it.
I'm reluctant to pop to the doctors but childminder doesn't want ds back until it's confirmed to not be chicken pox.

They look too small and numerous for chicken pox. Have they blistered at all? They would normally blister then scab over

dementedpixie · 18/11/2019 17:42

Could a pharmacist maybe assist?

donttalktomeaboutcarinsurance · 18/11/2019 17:44

@dementedpixie a pharmacist is a good idea. My dh can take him tomorrow. He was scratching his stomach earlier but they haven't changed. I wondered if he just had a mild version.

Thank you for all the help and suggestions. The pharmacist said it was a post viral rash. Thanks again!
