Christmas from eBay...

Thoughts please! Yes this is a name change as I know people who know my name on here and this is clearly going to affect them!

Is it bad that this year I'm buying every single present I can from eBay? My DH thinks I'm awful and a cheap skate but I'm being canny and only buying new things (candles etc) not like I'm buying makeup. But people sell all sorts of unwanted shit on eBay like Jo Malone and Molton brown etc for fairly cheap prices

The stuff I've got so far is legit.

So aibu?! I don't think so but solve an argument!

Not at all unreasonable

smileylottie87 · 16/11/2019 22:02

Not in my opinion at all! I get loads of gifts on there, if something did turn out to be a pile of shit then you just send it back! It makes perfect sense ☺

Ponoka7 · 16/11/2019 22:04

No, you're not falling for the claptrap that we should spend as much money as we can.

It makes no difference to the recipient where it was bought.

Shooturlocalmethdealer · 16/11/2019 22:05

YANBU. Who cares where a gift comes from? It's the thought that counts. I sell on Ebay. Only good quality items.

MadamHattie · 16/11/2019 22:06

I've just been on there doing the same thing! I refuse to pay out when I can save myself some money 😁

namechangetheworld · 16/11/2019 22:06

YANBU at all. I just bought a brand new Playmobil set (at half of the usual price) for my DD4 from Ebay. It was cheaper than any other online shop I could find. More fool the people who pay full price, I say Smile

Fantababy · 16/11/2019 22:07

Why the hell not? I've got a number of eBay presents this year. There's no reason for the recipient to know (unless you're so proud of your bargains you tell everyone). Gift giving should not be about monetary value.

GreySheep · 16/11/2019 22:09

I always check if I can get it on eBay before I buy in the shops. Daft not to save money if you can.

Cuddling57 · 16/11/2019 22:09

Gosh it's worth it just so you don't have to go to the shops! They are busy already!
Please tell me what you've got, from where and for who so I can copy you Wink

ChristmasElff · 16/11/2019 22:18

@Cuddling57
So far I have;
Jo malone pom noir 100ml for £35
Jo Malone Pom noir full size candle x2 for £20
Tom ford 'fucking fabulous' candle- 40
Molton brown reed diffuser- £21.50
Dyptique candle- 20
Neom pod diffuser and oil for £45 which was a total steal!
Retired Yankee candle that DH loves for £20
4 other Jo Malone 100ml perfumes for £30 ish each.

Means I've totally finished Christmas shopping and I have a lot of nice things that I know my family will love at about a third of the price 😳

I've also bought some new boxes from
eBay so I can box up the ones that don't have a box 😳

YANBU. I would say that it's sensible to have done it early, because eBay isn't always the most reliable place - if stuff doesn't arrive, or isn't as described, you won't get a replacement couriered to you the next day. But otherwise it's perfectly fine.

Mummadeeze · 16/11/2019 22:35

eBay is just an online shop. Not sure why your DH is questioning your choices... apart from the fact that you have bought an awful lot of candles!

DontCallMeShitley · 16/11/2019 22:39

Hopefully the candles are genuine, there were some a while ago that were fake, Jo Malone especially.

Cuddling57 · 16/11/2019 22:57

@ChristmasElff they sound great and I bet your house smells lovely!
I am so jealous that you have finished!

Doingtheboxerbeat · 16/11/2019 23:45

I couldn't care less about whether or not they are fake, all I care about is whether they get to you in time depending on the courier used (I'm in all sorts of threads tonight).
