I name changed. Not in the UK.

In a newish relationship with a pleasant man. Decided to visit his family for the weekend. All nice, "happy go-lucky" types in an ex-mining town.

After an earlier barbecue and drinks with neighbours, most are zig-zag drunk, some passed out.

My partner says even Xmas will be the same, and he sees nothing wrong. That's not how I'd like to spent Holidays.

One of my concerns was how they maintain relationships if they are drunk half the time, he took offence and asked me to leave in the morning if I am uncomfortable.

Was my concern unreasonable?

Different expectations in your relationship op.
My ex was similar. Even while I was pregnant he wanted to sit at his dps with them getting pissed when I wanted to be home by 8! Even when he wasn't drinking himself!
Even their dcat was named after a beer!!
Ex op.
Ex.

Get out now! That will be you in the future.

Merryoldgoat · 16/11/2019 19:38

You aren’t compatible - time to move on.

ThanosSavedMe · 16/11/2019 19:39

Doesn’t sound like you are compatible. Neither of you are wrong, you have e different views, they aren’t going to change. Leave now before you get too invested.

Walk away.

Sitedinthehut · 16/11/2019 19:52

Yes. I just couldn't have thought, some families do not have meal times.

If he thinks there’s nothing wrong with it I’d get out of there now. The biggest (only) thing my DP and I argue about is my MIL’s drinking. At least my DP realises MIL has a problem, yet we still argue. I’m sorry OP but you have no chance with him of he doesn’t see a problem.

Some of us don't drink, others do. Generally, they don't mix well. Find someone else.
