Is this peri-menopause?

I was in absolute agony before my periods started and on day1. My boobs hurt a lot and I was convinced there was something sinister happening. On day2, the pain disappeared like magic. Zero pain.
Also, the flow has considerably lightened in the last few cycles. Zero sex drive. I never had boob pain ever, it all just started a few cycles ago.

I’m only 37! Could this be peri-menopause?

I'm 40 and I've had very easy regular periods forever. In the last few years I've had more hormonal symptoms the week before but not every month: pmt, sore boobs, headaches etc. I'm fine and periods are the same just more symptoms. Speaking to friends in their late thirties they seem to be going through similar.
I just put it down to hormonal changes as I age my sister is 45 and she hasn't started menopause yet and my mum was in her 50s.

I never had boob pain/sore boobs before. Not even in my pregnancy. I was in a lot of pain this time. I took out my bra and felt like there were stones in there! No lumps or anything, just felt very sore.
Is there anything/supplements I can take to help with these changes? I took ibrupofen and it seemed to help.

You are young for it, but it’s not unknown to have an early one. My symptoms have only kicked in the last year or so and I’m 10 years older!

I’m 39 and have had similar for a couple of years, boob pain, period pains worse than they have been since I was very young, but shorter periods, and horrible PMT. I am pretty sure it is perimenopause, my Mum had a relatively early menopause at 42, and thinks her own mother was similar too

I can only sympathise with you, it’s not nice and seems to be something women just don’t talk about much

I'm 41 and have similar, I'm at the start of peri.

I was recommended Starflower oil tablets (every day even if no pain) and ibuprofen gel (for the actual days when it hurts) by my GP for the breast pain.

A simple blood test by your GP will tell you if you are peri menopause.

I don't think that's necessarily true, mine were 'within the normal range' but my GP agrees I'm peri-menopausal and she says that's not unusual as the test only shows current level and they have nothing to compare it to.

I think finding an a GP who understands peri-menopause is key.

One of my symptoms was intense breast pain, along with periods becoming irregular and flooding.

No, it won't.

How do people know that they are in peri menopause? Self diagnosed? My doctor refuses to test me, they said they don't do hormone tests anymore

Aquamarine1029 · 15/11/2019 18:15

@snugglemonster84

It's based on the symptoms you're experiencing. Anxiety, changes in your periods, insomnia, mood changes, digestive issues, hot flushes, night sweats, joint aches, headaches, breast tenderness, etc...

LightsInOtherPeoplesHouses · 15/11/2019 18:24

aching joints as well? Excellent, that explains that then.

I've had the anxiety, night sweats and digestive issues. So much fun.
