To ask for help with Christmas games?

SugarPlumLairy2 · 14/11/2019 17:38

I am hosting Christmas lunch this year and am looking for a fun game that can cope with 8 players. Everything I own is 4-6 players or trivia based and has been done to death.

There’s not tons of room for charades, and we tend to congregate around the dinner table so obviously Spoons is already on my list, but what else!?

Is there anything fun, easy, can play from ages 13 +, reasonably silly, ice-breaking etc. Not a sit down at a board for 40 minutes type game?

Is that asking too much?

Weve got a lovely bunch of peeps, for a limited time only, all like games etc. I was hoping for something to liven up the table ?

What is your idea of a fun Christmas game?

Thank you letter consequences?
My Grandmothers cat?
The desert island menu game?
Message me if you don't know how to play them. I'm in the middle of making tea so can't stop to add the rules now

You need a Hum That Tune game. Brilliant fun. Picked one up in Lakeland a couple of years back for a few £!

Lillyhatesjaz · 14/11/2019 18:20

Cut some pictures of various well known people or places out of magazines, the radio times is good for this, stick on to cardboard number them and have a picture quiz either individually or in teams. If you have some LOs playing you can include cbeebies characters.

Ouchmyleg · 14/11/2019 18:21

Who am I is loads of fun

redexpat · 14/11/2019 18:51

Not exactly a game but what about some christmas selfie sticks?

ExpatInAGrump · 14/11/2019 18:53

Bluff.
It's a dice game and you have to outbid or challenge the previous players

DingDongDenny · 14/11/2019 18:55

Our favorite family game is Taboo

WeirdCatLady · 14/11/2019 18:55

Are the teens mature enough for Cards against humanity? It’s fairly near the knuckle but hysterically funny imho

forkfun · 14/11/2019 18:57

Fictionary. It's the best. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fictionary

moofolk · 14/11/2019 18:58

You can pair up to do 4 player games.

Also recommend Articulate.

elephantoverthehill · 14/11/2019 18:59

We often play 'Risky Poker' a good card game for all ages. We play with 3 pennies each.

SugarPlumLairy2 · 14/11/2019 19:27

Raaaaaah, you guys are brilliant! 👍😃

Some of these. Have and some I need to look up, not sure what desert island menu is or risky poker so off to look those up.

I love pink spot game, though we call it Ibble dibble and use a burnt wine cork to put black spots aka ibble dibbles on you 😂

I can’t believe that my mind just went utterly blank and I panicked, but I love these ideas. Keep them coming if you have any more 👍

I second Chameleon. Also Don't Get Got is good. We play it by giving each person 3 cards at the start of the day, which gives you plenty of time to complete the challenges.

JaceLancs · 14/11/2019 19:30

All I got for Xmas (memory game)

In case you can't find it on-line, this is how you play desert island menu.
Two teams (or more if you have a lot of people)
Each team makes a list of as many foods beginning with the letter C as they can think of. Each team reads out their list and crosses off anything the other teams have also got. Repeat with items of clothing. Now take your shortened list and using only the items remaining on your list work out menus for breakfast lunch and dinner and from your clothing list what you will wear for each meal. No item can be used more than once. One year, one of the teams ended up wearing cochineal for dinner as they had run out of clothes
Then read out the results for everyone to enjoy

Potatopia · 14/11/2019 19:53

Everyone writes the names of 2-5 (more of you = fewer each) famous people. Put the names in a bowl.
Split into two teams.
One player from the first team has one minute to pick names out of the bowl and describe that person to the rest of their team. The aim is to for the team to correctly guess as many as they can. The number of people the team correctly guess = number of points. Don't put the bits of paper back in the bowl.
Now the other team have their turn doing the same.
Teams keep taking it in turns, with the players taking turns to describe, until the bowl is empty.
Count the points and put the bits of paper back in the bowl.
Now play again, using the same bits of paper/famous people, but this time instead of describing, only use acting/charades.
Then play again, but this time only using one word to describe each person.
Then add up all the points!

snozzlemaid · 14/11/2019 20:03

I got this game from on here and have posted it myself a few times now.
Trawl poundshops for all sorts of random stuff. Things that no one will want and a few good bits people will want.
Wrap each gift and put in a sack.
Each person takes it in turns to roll a dice. If you roll a six you take a gift from the sack and open it immediately. If you roll a one you have to take a gift that someone else has won.
There's always something that everyone wants so gets passed around a lot.
We've played this with a group of all ages and it's always a great laugh.
I usually make sure there's two or three gifts for each person. But some will end up with more gifts than others.

Livelovebehappy · 14/11/2019 20:07

Buy 8 stocking filler type gifts. Wrap them up and put them in the middle of the table. The 8 people round the table take turns at throwing a dice. If they get a six théy unwrap a parcel and put in front of them. Once all gifts are unwrapped, continue round the table throwing the dice, but when you get a six you get to ‘steal’ someone else’s gift. You set a timer of say 15 mins and once the time is up you get to keep all the pressies in front of you. You could end up with all 8, or even none at all.
