To hate putting shoes on at the door?

This isn't a shoes on/off indoors thread.

Our front door is at the bottom of a flight of stairs, at the end of skinny longish lobby. Dh has bought a shoe rack for down there.

Prior to the shoe rack we would all come up to the main floor and then remove shoes etc (had a spot for them). There was space for them to go and room for us all to manoeuvre round one another.

Now all our everyday shoes are downstairs and it just is unsettling me Grin. I've got to start leaving the house 5mins earlier for us all to pile into the lobby fully coated up to wrangle with the pile of shoes on the rack, find a spot to sit and put shoes on etc. Then if the shoes we need aren't there, back up the stairs to then find them.

I like all dc ready, shoes on, coats on etc for the last 5 mins before we leave in the living room with their books or toys so once the time is right to leave we can just walk down the stairs and leave.

I get the benefit - less walking outdoor stuff up the stairs, but it's outweighed by the inconvenience.

Put the shoe rack upstairs where you used to do shoes. He's not the boss.

Shoes by the door mean that you don't traipse wet shoes with mud, snow and potentially dog poo through the house.

Just move the shoe rack

Is it a communal hallway?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 13/11/2019 08:37

Nope it's a private hallway only our front door on it.

I think you just need to be organised and make sure the correct shoes are on the rack. I get not having enough space but unless you have wooden stairs I can’t imagine how grumpy your stairs were getting.

Bluntness100 · 13/11/2019 08:40

Just move the shoe rack then. It's your home too. Confused

Why don't you just put a door mat by the front door instead and then go back to putting your shoes where they were originally?
