Routines from books and apps for babies are bullshit.

Do you know what, I know I'm being unreasonable because All Babies Are Different.

But I need to bitch and moan anyway, and I think a tiny bit I'm not BU.

My first two kids slipped into their own routine from 6-8 weeks old, I never had to worry about following a book or guide.

Baby 3 comes along and he's not much different from them generally speaking except he has absolutely no routine that he's fallen into despite our daily routine being generally the same.

So at 7-8 months I ended up looking for help via book, app or website.

This helped a LOT, following a set routine.

He's now nearly 11 months and things have changed.

However, one app (Little ones) says he should have a 10-20 nap in the morning and a 2 hour nap in the afternoon.

Huckleberry said he should have 1.25 hour nap morning and afternoon.

How can they be so wildly different?!

He listens to neither by the way, I've read them out to him several times and he doesn't adhere to either.
I'm pretty sure he flipped me the bird at one point.

I’m not sure babies can be told how long they should sleep for. No wonder he 🖕

I quite agree!

Originally I used it as a guide as to when to put him down to sleep as I found I was getting it very wrong because his signs just weren't as obvious as the others.

However now it seems these apps are suggesting waking him up (after 10-20 mins?!) which I too would swear at.

My DD would have flipped me more than the bird if I’d woken her up after 10 mins.

I used little ones and found it was absolutely not worth the effort of putting ds down to wake him up after ten mins. I did 60 mins in the morning and 90 in the afternoon for a while, now we do 30 in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon.

Except for the days that he doesn’t want to 😅

He slept for 1hr 45 mins during that "10-20 min nap"

It's insane isn't it?!

That's a good point bellajay I'm teaching him to self settle using gradual retreat and it's working well but takes a while.

It's absolutely not worth the effort for a 10 minute kip.
