Experience with IPL - laser hair removal

Posting here for traffic.
I paid for and had 6 treatments to laser my bikini line. It was supposed to sting a bit but it didn't really bother me. Had to have a 7th free top up due to minor regrowth
However, a couple of months have passed and it has mostly, I would say at least 50% grown back.

Has anyone had this happen? Am due back at the salon to sort it out but I'm not keen to pay more if it should have worked first time.
Thanks

As far as I am aware both IPL and laser hair removal are not permanent hair removal options. The clinic or salon you went to should have explained this. I have had laser hair removal and the reduction has been significant but there is still hair there. I have an at home IPL machine which has slowed and reduced regrowth on my legs. I use this to keep on top of the area I had lasered several years ago.

How thick and dark is your hair?
I was advised it's not 100%. They put it on the higher settings for me towards the end and it hurt! Maybe you could enquire with the manager about the settings etc?
I was told to have more sessions but I was pleased with the reduction on the sides and wasn't going to pay any more money!

IPL is a lot weaker than actual laser hair removal and has a more temporary effect. IPL machines create a wide spectrum of light wavelengths and so doesn't penetrate as deep into the hair follicle as an actual laser beam which is more concentrated. I've had 6 sessions of laser hair removal done & haven't had any hair grow back yet & my last session was over a year ago now!

I had 8 treatments of laser (not ipl), it seemed to have worked 99% until I got to the 2.5 month mark and it's all coming back. I'm not going to lie I've been very disappointed.

I got a 6 session groupon offer for IPL for my bikini line. I ended up buying 2 out 3 extra sessions and it’s not grown back. 8 years. I’m really hairy, and nothing ever works on it, so if it works for me it should work for anyone.
I have high pain threshold and it stung. I would be asking them to turn it up.

I had my legs and bikini line done 10 years ago and have had no regrowth

What kind of hair do you have OP? I had laser hair removal, and they did explain its not permanent (just supposed to slow the hair growth down I think). The lady at the salon said as well if you can tolerate the pain well the machine needs turning up because the hair isn't as thick so therefore needs to be on a higher setting to blitz the finer hair.

I've found the results better on my legs than bikini line I must admit though. Currently pregnant so can't have it at the moment, but even the results I have achieved so far have been better than I expected.

Hi, Thanks for your commee. I am pale skinned and dark hair. I understood that it might not all go, but I justlook like I have mild alopecia around my bikini line. I only wanted to stop those nasty ingrowing hairs.
I will ask that they turn it up full whack on Saturday.

It's not permanent. You're better off spending £250 on a Philips Lumea. Superb if you have fair (ish) skin and dark hair. Mines brilliant. Still works on me when I have a tan in the summer and I go pretty brown even with factor 30 on. Download the app and it's quite often for the first few sessions and then is just top ups thereafter. Wish I'd bought one when I was eighteen!

Didntwanttochangemyname · 07/11/2019 17:23

I've had one session of laser on my armpits 2 months ago and I've just called to push back my next session as I have literally no regrowth yet. I was under the impression that it's pretty permanent but only if you have the right skin type /hair type combo.

HoldMyLobster · 07/11/2019 17:49

I had some kind of laser treatment about 10 years ago - not sure what. No regrowth at all. I have light-medium skin and dark hair.

Starlight456 · 07/11/2019 17:53

I have had iPl on lip and chin 10 treatments later still getting some regrowing . I wouldn’t pay for it again
