Fake handbag and a surprise

I placed a bid on a Gucci bag and then forgot all about it. Ebay told me I'd won, I paid and today the package has arrived. It's a poor old fake so it's going to be returned but there was something inside that really distorted the bag and really heavy. It's a mans watch Hublot brand it must be a fake but I'm just wondering why they've sent it to me as it can't be a mistake as it's so bloody big and heavy. I really need to stop eBay shopping when I can't sleep.

So aibu as I want your opinions please.

What is your AIBU?

MotherofPoodles · 04/11/2019 13:05

Why do you think they've sent me the watch?

Yabu. Hth.

InsertFunnyUsername · 04/11/2019 13:14

Maybe to weigh the bag down or to stop the bag getting squashed during delivery. Not sure why youd bother for fakes though. Or maybe they knew you would realise it's fake so added more fake items to sweeten the deal Either way just ask for a refund and stop Ebay shopping Grin

SayOohLaLa · 04/11/2019 13:26

Can you get away with keeping it? If it's a fake as well, I'd leave it in the bag and send it back.

Beveren · 04/11/2019 13:37

Does the watch work?

CalmFizz · 04/11/2019 13:40

They may have weighed the package before sending it, when you return it make sure to return the watch or they could say the item you returning is missing etc.

Don’t eBay take a very dim view of fakes though (officially)? They may not ask you to return it, just to destroy it. Make a product not as described/fake claim with eBay.

TheFlis12345 · 04/11/2019 13:45

They have added weight to the parcel hoping you will keep the watch so they can claim the bag you send back is not the same one they sent you as the weight is different. Scammers do this and claim they sent you a real bag but you have sent back a fake.

Yespleaselouise · 04/11/2019 13:55

Shout-out to @19lottie82 !! (Ebay pro!)
Think PP has this right - it’s about the weight and the seller acting fraudulently here....

NameChangedForTheDay · 04/11/2019 13:55

eBay don't give two hoots about fakes. I received fake 'designer' cosmetics from a UK seller. I raised a dispute and eBay said to just return the goods for a refund. Ummm, so the seller can sell again?! eBay didn't give a single fuck.

The seller didn't get banned and did indeed resell the palette I sent back. I then saw other reviews and people said the goods were counterfeit.

I reported her to Trading Standards and they did actually act and shut her little outfit down and she got a formal warning.

If I were you'd. I'd send it all back and report to Trading Standards.

TheReluctantCountess · 04/11/2019 14:29

You don’t want either item, so send them back as they arrived.

FishCanFly · 04/11/2019 15:07

I always laugh at people who want "designer" items on a cheap. Surely if a real one is out of your budget, why bother?

Ferretyone · 04/11/2019 15:11

You know what to do! Open a "not as described case" in the resolution centre. Do not argue or contact the seller. The seller will send a label and then you return for a refund.

"Not as described" = ordered a Gucci bag and got a fake [not unusual] or ordered a bag and got a bag and watch.

Please do not try to return outside of the eBay system or you will never see the money!

Never ever buy designer goods on Ebay. You will never get the real deal.

MotherofPoodles · 04/11/2019 16:08

Thanks for the replies folks.

I've started the return process. I think it might be a scam, thanks for the advice.

I bought a oak mulberry Bayswater on eBay once for £16.51. Had it authenticated and it turned out to be genuine. It's something I enjoy and this is the first time anything like this has happened.

I'm also not out looking for fakes, I'm looking for old bags that are unbranded (my best find being a very Christian Dior) or samples etc. I have beautiful brand new bags bought direct from the brand but the thrill of finding a hidden gem is just as good. I also look in charity shops (celine and a Louis bag were the best finds). But no more late night ebaying for meWink.

Used to be that if you opened a fake item case eBay would have you jumping through hoops, including getting written proof that the item was a fake. Clearly high street sellers were just falling over themselves to authenticate items for eBay Hmm

Unfortunately this stance means that most people open a not as described case, which is a shame because fake item is returned to seller to fleece someone else.

It is difficult because there is a portion of buyers out there who would claim an item was fake or even swap a fake for a legitimate item and return the fake.
I guess the conclusion really is that eBay is not the place for designer goods.
And lets not even start on the rat poison laden makeup.
